The skeleton’s whip is a whip that Caelumn took from “an eye-patched skeleton” lying across a stone slab in the cell block of the ridge temple in session 21 [7]. At the table Caelumn asked “Why am I so drawn to this whip?” and the DM answered “It’s cursed.” [10][11]; Caelumn put it in his backpack anyway [13]. The DM has since said that no curse is confirmed, and none has manifested, so the whip’s curse and any other property remain unestablished.
Overview
The whip lay in the cell block, the room beyond the north door of the temple’s corridor [5][6][7]. Caelumn took it even after the DM remarked that it was cursed, and nothing has come of it. It has not been identified, and no curse or other property is established.
Description
“As you open the door you see rusted shackles that hang above two stone slabs. You see an eye-patched skeleton lie across one of them, holding a whip.” — Nick (DM), [7]
Caelumn checked the detail, “did you mean holding a staff?” [8], and the DM confirmed: “No, whip.” [9]. On a poor Investigation roll, Caelumn learned only that the skeleton was “holding a whip that’s kind of chained to a stone slab” [3]. Whether the whip or the skeleton is chained is unclear.
Mechanics (as played)
None shown. It has not been drawn or used in play, and no attunement, identification or magical property has been mentioned.
Open questions
- Whether it is cursed. At the table Caelumn asked the DM directly, “Hey, Nick. I’m confused. Why am I so drawn to this whip?” [10], and got “It’s cursed.” [11]. The DM has since said that no curse is confirmed (the DM’s post-s21 clarifications, 2026-09-27), so the exchange is recorded as said at the table, not as an established curse.
- What it is. Nobody has examined it with magic.
History in the campaign
Session 21: The Hand That Points North
Main article: Session 21
In the ridge temple’s cell block the party found an eye-patched skeleton across a stone slab, holding a whip [7]. Caelumn asked why he was so drawn to it, and the DM said “It’s cursed.” [10][11]. Hugo waved it through, “No, you can have the whip.” [12], and the DM let Caelumn put it in his backpack [13]. Caelumn waited for something to go wrong, “Why have I not died yet Why is there some reanimation happening” [14], and nothing did.
Status
As of session 23. Carried by Caelumn, in his backpack [13]. Unidentified; no curse is confirmed and none has manifested. It is not mentioned after session 21.
