The Ring of Swimming is a standard 5e wondrous item awarded to Cholmondeley in session 2 as the d100=90 reward for delivering the session-1 recap [3]. Its single property is that the wearer’s walking speed becomes a 40-foot swim speed. Cholmondeley accepted with the muted observation “Okay, I will take that. I don’t know when I’m going to be swimming, but I will take that. Better be prepared than not” [4]. He died in session 3 to a yuan-ti woman’s double-bite critical [2] without ever using the ring. Its post-death fate is not enumerated in transcript — likely buried with the body at the Wyrmbough Grove funeral, or quietly retained by the party off-record.
Overview
A standard Ring of Swimming, mechanically identical to the published 5e item: while worn, the wearer’s walking speed becomes a 40-foot swim speed. Awarded to Cholmondeley by the DM as the recap-roll reward at the start of session 2 [3], and never used in the campaign — Cholmondeley died in s3 in Sunset is Nigh’s Lair before any swimming opportunity arose.
Status as of session 16
Lost. The transcript does not record the ring being recovered from Cholmondeley’s body before the funeral at Wyrmbough Grove. It is presumed buried with him or quietly held off-record.
