The Cloak of Protection is the standard 5e uncommon wondrous item that grants +1 to AC and to all saving throws while attuned and worn. Terry selected it at the s10/s11 level-up bestowal in preference to a second pair of Winged Boots — “I’m being boring I’ve taken a cloak of protection and I’m going to go Warcaster let’s protect that concentration and then I’m going to go for Mage Slayer to even further protect the concentration on top of bladesinger that gives me like a 20 plus like plus 18 con save” [3]. The cloak slots into Terry’s bladesinger-defensive build alongside Warcaster, the Tortle’s natural-AC base, and the s14 Bladesinger respec. Referenced as the source of saved AC in the s11 owlbear fight.
Overview
Standard 5e Cloak of Protection: requires attunement; while worn, grants +1 to AC and +1 to all saving throws. Selected by Terry at the s10/s11 level-up bestowal as the concentration-defensive complement to his then-already-planned Bladesinger build (Bladesinger formally locked in at s14). Stack: Cloak (+1 saves), Warcaster (advantage on con saves to maintain concentration), Mage Slayer (further concentration insurance), Bladesinger (high con-save bonus while singing) — the cloak is the +1 anchor of the stack.
Notable use
- s11 owlbears: cited in passing as the reason a missed-by-1 attack against Terry was a miss [2].
- s15 Aurelian patrol: Terry’s con saves all succeeded under Bladesong, which folds the cloak’s contribution into the broader build.
Status as of session 16
Carried, attuned. Worn continuously since s11.
