OriginRock-candy library/study, Candy Cottage, session 13

The Candied Apple with Dentures is a half-eaten toffee apple with a set of dentures clamped through it, looted by Caelumn from the rock-candy library/study end-table inside Uncle Nibblecheek’s candy cottage in session 13. Caelumn’s own immediate note read “definitely cursed. Do not remove dentures.” [1]. The bubblegum halfling later confirmed the connection in [2] — Uncle Nibblecheek “lost his teeth a long time ago. Can’t really eat anything without his dentures” — implying both that the dentures are Nibblecheek’s missing set and that retaining them is leverage over him. The s14 Nibblecheek confrontation resolved by surrender before the dentures’ leverage was tested. Per the DM, the candied apple was returned to Uncle Nibblecheek before the s15 backpack snare — it was NOT in Caelumn’s pack at the time of the theft, and an earlier wiki reading that listed it among the stolen items has since been corrected.

Overview

A half-eaten candied apple with Uncle Nibblecheek’s missing dentures clamped through the bite. Looted by Caelumn in s13 from a rock-candy end-table in the cottage’s library/study, with the same impulse that took the Crooked Broom and the +1 Greataxe — clear the room. The “definitely cursed” reading came from Caelumn’s own pocket-note, not from a Detect Magic readback; the cottage’s ambient candy-magic confused detection across the building.

Leverage value

The bubblegum halfling’s mid-session aside surfaced the lever:

“Nibblecheek lost his teeth a long time ago. Can’t really eat anything without his dentures.” — bubblegum halfling, [2]

Caelumn registered the implication immediately:

“a very suspicious look towards my back pocket where I’m stuck on a fucking toffee apple with dentures in” — Caelumn internal, [3]

The s14 confrontation with Nibblecheek did not require leveraging the dentures — Vasquez’s grapple and Brioche’s pin produced surrender before any dentition-based negotiation occurred — but the lever was visible to Caelumn throughout.

Status as of session 16

Returned to Uncle Nibblecheek before the s15 backpack snare, per the DM’s correction. The [5] callback list previously misreported the apple-with-dentures as among the items lost in the snare; that has now been corrected here and across the affected articles. The apple is therefore back in Nibblecheek’s possession in the Candy Cottage, not in Aurelian custody.

Open questions

  • What does removing the dentures actually do? Caelumn’s pocket-note says “do not”; the only in-fiction confirmation is that the apple appears to act as a binding object.
  • Why the party returned the dentures rather than retaining the leverage. (Implied: a quiet table decision before the smoke escape; the on-screen scene was not narrated in detail.)
