Althea’s Gorget is the silver and golden neck-piece “with a bright burning gem” that Althea Stormsoro wore when she ran into the party’s camp in session 15 [1]. By her own account an armoured patrol had wanted to look at it, she had refused, and they had tried to take her hostage [2]. What it is, and why anyone wanted it, was never revealed. It left play with Althea after the retcon that opened session 17 [4][5].

Overview

Althea’s Gorget is the silver and golden neck-piece Althea Stormsoro wore from the moment she ran out of the trees into the party’s camp [1]. It is the only reason she gave for being chased [2], and the party never learned more. Nobody at the table gave it a name; the wiki’s title for it is a description.

Description

Her player described it as “a silver and golden gorget with a bright burning gem that sits in the middle just above her upper chest”, caressing her neck [1]. When Terry asked what she meant by “my gorgets”, she showed it to the party, and Hugo remarked that it went all the way round her neck [6].

Mechanics (as played)

No property of the gorget was described. Althea held a hand to it as she began the chant for her Bless [3].

Open questions

  • Why did the patrol want it? Only Althea’s account ties the pursuit to the gorget. The officer who followed her called her “the fugitive” and said nothing of it [2][7].
  • Is it the gem of session 16? After the sewer fight Althea took out a gem that “starts to shine brighter than usual” when she saw the gunblade schematics, and put it in Vasquez’s hands for “a surge of holy power” that mended his armour [8]. Nobody says whether this is the gorget’s gem.
  • Does it connect to her past? She told Caelumn she had originally wanted to be a runesmith and it did not work out [9]. Whether that touches the gorget is not stated.

History in the campaign

Session 15: The Death of Ruin and Althea Joins

Althea ran out of the trees into the camp, and her player described the gorget with its “bright burning gem” [10]. Asked who was after her, she said armoured folk had wanted to look at her gorgets, that she had denied them, and that they had tried to take her hostage [2]. She showed the piece to the party [11]. The patrol was at the clearing within moments, and its officer ordered the party, by order of the Pure Light, to step away from “the fugitive” [12][7]. A chain then took Ruin’s head before initiative was rolled [13]. Later Althea held a hand to the gorget as she chanted her Bless [3].

Session 17: New Hands, the Black Mask’s Renegotiation, and the Rimeclaw

The gorget is not mentioned. The retcon that opens the session has Althea and Vasquez split from the party and never return, and the DM later says the Aurelians captured them and the party chose to leave them behind [4][5]. The gorget is presumed to have gone with her. Under ruling 25 she is a departed player character, not an open rescue thread.

Status

As of session 17. Off the table with Althea and presumed to be in Aurelian hands; the record does not say [5].
