Its fairy shopkeeper quoted 50 gold each, then raised the price to 60 gold after Ruin was caught trying to lift a potion, and pointed to a string of thieves’ hands hanging in the shop ^[18]. The party left without buying and went on to the Whisper Coil Emporium.

Overview

Starpoint Secrets is a potion shop in Umbrafall that the party visited once, in session 11, hoping to buy healing potions at a fair price. Its unnamed fairy shopkeeper quoted 50 gold a potion, then raised the price to 60 gold when Ruin was caught trying to lift one ^[4][5]. The party left without buying and went on to the Whisper Coil Emporium.

Geography and appearance

The shopfront is a very crudely drawn star with a small glimmer over its tip, and the name “Starpoint Secrets” ^[6]. An innkeeper had sent the party to it as “just down the road” ^[7].

Layout

• Street door: a crude star with a small glimmer over its tip marks the shop ^[6].
• Shop floor: the smell of concentrated biogloom hits the nose on entering, and roughly five different pots stir magically by themselves, each with a different potion seemingly brewing ^[8].
• Desk: the fairy shopkeeper sits at it, with healing potions for sale at a base price of 50 gold ^[9].
• Display: a variety of potions, none of them labelled ^[10].
• Above the display: a string from which hang the hands of thieves of many different races ^[11].

Inhabitants

• The shopkeeper: a fairy with shaved purple hair and a pot belly, who looks under the weather. He blows his nose into his hands and wipes them on his trousers ^[12]. He knew at a glance that the party were not locals ^[13]. He is never named.

Notable features

The string of hands is the shop’s deterrent: the shopkeeper pointed to it, said that thieves “get what’s coming to them”, and put the price up ^[14].

History in the campaign

Session 11: Owlbears and the Soulbinder

Preparing for the journey, the party asked an innkeeper where to buy healing potions at a fair price, and he sent them to Starpoint Secrets ^[1]. After a stop for rats on sticks they found the shop by its crude star ^[6]. The shopkeeper had healing potions at a base price of 50 gold, and Caelumn asked for three for 120 ^[4]. While they haggled, Ruin tried to steal an unlabelled red potion, was noticed and fumbled it back into place. The fairy pointed to the string of hands and put the price up to 60 gold each ^[15]. With 120 gold the party could now afford two, and left without buying: “Thank you, please don’t come again” ^[16].

Status

As of session 23. Not revisited since session 11. The party went on to the Whisper Coil Emporium instead ^[17].
