Phil’s Bakery is the loaf-shaped bakery in Eldwythe run by the dwarf Phil Flowerforge. Behind a brass-bell door and a flour-dusted, sweet-bread aroma is the secret of the trade: pastries toasted with the fire of Briochebane, a small red-gold dragon Phil raised from a stolen egg in his brigand days [3]. The party confronted Phil here in session 12; he confessed and offered 100gp + 12 cinnamon rolls for Brioche’s retrieval.
Overview
Phil’s Bakery is a loaf-shaped two-storey building in Eldwythe with a brass bell over the door and a sweet-bread aroma. Phil Flowerforge, a reformed brigand turned dwarf baker, runs it. The bakery’s signature is dragon-fire-toasted pastries — a quality Phil maintained by raising the small dragon Briochebane in a back room from a stolen egg.
Geography and appearance
A bread-loaf-shaped exterior. Inside: small windows letting in slanted sunlight, flour dust, sacks of grain, ovens, and a back area presumed to be where Brioche was kept (transcript does not show the back; the party did not search). Phil’s “trade secret” — that his pastries are toasted with dragon’s fire — has been on the menu for some months by the time the party arrived.
Government / control
Phil Flowerforge is the proprietor.
History in the campaign
- Session 12: The party traces a half-eaten cinnamon bun from Edith’s Confectionery back to Phil’s Bakery. Caelumn’s draconic-scale display in conversation drives Phil to confess: he stole a dragon egg from a hoard in his brigand days, the dragon hatched, he funded the bakery on the haul, and he has been raising Briochebane in secret. He offers 100gp + 12 cinnamon rolls for Brioche’s retrieval (Brioche has gone missing and Phil suspects he caused the fire at Edith’s). Ruin negotiates a private side-deal: 20gp upfront + a dozen cinnamon rolls + non-snitching agreement [2]. Phil hands the party a sack of warm cinnamon rolls as bait for the candy-trail east.
- Sessions 13-14: Off-screen.
- Session 15: Phil Flowerforge is no longer at the bakery — he has rescued the party from the Aurelian patrol with a smoke bomb and is leaving Eldwythe with Briochebane. The bakery itself is abandoned; the Aurelian forces have occupied the village.
Inhabitants
- Phil Flowerforge (departed s15)
- Briochebane (kidnapped before s12; recovered s14; departed with Phil s15)
Status as of session 16
Abandoned by Phil. The Aurelian forces occupation of Eldwythe means the bakery’s status is unconfirmed; whether Phil’s brigand-past records have been searched is not known.
