Edith’s Confectionery is the small confectionery at the tree-line edge of Eldwythe, run by the elderly Edith Applegarth. The party arrived in session 12 to find it on fire — black smoke rising from a squat log building, Edith inside screaming for help [1]. Hugo kicked the door open and dragged Edith out; Vazquez organised a bucket-brigade by Intimidation; the fire was extinguished. A charred painting inside depicted young Edith with her now-missing brother — a thread that connected back to the Candy Cottage [2]. The fire was likely caused by Briochebane.

Overview

Edith’s Confectionery is the small candy shop at the wooded edge of Eldwythe, run by Edith Applegarth, an elderly confectioner with a missing brother. The shop’s role in the campaign is brief but consequential: its burning down in session 12 is the inciting incident that brought the party to Phil Flowerforge and through to the Candy Cottage.

Geography and appearance

A squat log building at Eldwythe’s tree-line edge. Inside: candy stations, melted lollipops, a charred painting of young Edith with a young boy (her brother who disappeared into the woods years ago), and — half-eaten in the grass behind the shop — a cinnamon bun later identified by History check as having come from Phil’s Bakery.

History in the campaign

  • Session 12: A thick column of black smoke rises from the building as the party approaches Eldwythe. Someone screams from inside. Caelumn casts Control Flames repeatedly in 5x5 cubes; Hugo kicks the door open (taking 5 fire damage on a Dex save), enters, and carries out the elderly confectioner. Vazquez organises a bucket-brigade by Intimidation; the fire is out within five minutes. Edith Applegarth is named on rescue and offers 10gp each plus a batch of favourite desserts to find the arsonist. Investigation in the shop produces the painting of Edith and her brother and the cinnamon bun — the trail that leads to Phil’s Bakery.
