Duskwatch is a port a couple of days from Mirestrand and Velkris, where Maelis Dirn’s forged shipping papers say her cargo was landed after leaving Umbrafall through Dock 13 [5][11]. The Treaty of Duskwatch (607 A.I.), the world brief says, settled a war over river trade and let Velkris tax every ship moving inland. The party has never visited, but carries the forged ledger that The Broker said Silent Intake in Velkris would pay for [16].
Overview
Duskwatch is a port where Maelis Dirn’s smuggled cargo was landed after leaving Umbrafall through Dock 13 [3]. The DM puts it “maybe a couple of days away” from Mirestrand and Velkris [4]. The world brief names the Treaty of Duskwatch (607 A.I.): a war over river trade neared collapse, Velkris stepped in, and it now taxes every ship moving inland (world-brief canon). The party has never visited. It knows Duskwatch from the forged shipping ledger that Hugo took from Maelis’s research room [5].
Geography and appearance
Not described in play. Nothing in the sessions shows the town, its docks or its people.
Government / control
Under the Treaty of Duskwatch, Velkris taxes the shipping that passes (world-brief canon). Who governs the port itself has not been said.
Notable features
- The Duskwatch shipping ledger. Forged papers in Maelis’s hand that route her cargo through Dock 13 to Duskwatch [5][3]. The Duskwatch shipping ledger page covers them in full.
History in the campaign
Session 6: Maze of the Minotaur and the Titan
Main article: Session 6
In Maelis Dirn’s research room in the Warrens, Harvo noticed a pile of papers about shipping and dock work [6]. His Investigation could make out only the gist, that she had been “shipping something through Duskwatch”, and that the letters did not quite make sense [5]. Harvo thought the party’s future might lead into the ports [7]. Hugo took the papers, hoping the Broker would know more [8].
Session 7: Maelis Falls, Vasquez Captured
Main article: Session 7
Hugo showed the papers to the Broker, who read them as Maelis “exporting biogloom toxin over through Duskwatch and into Velkris” [9]. They were fakes, he said, but old, and “persuasive to the right kind of person”. He named the organisation that wants such counterfeit documents: Silent Intake, near the entrance to Velkris, where one should look for the Talking Skulls [9][2].
Session 16: Through the Sewers, Onto the Skiff
Main article: Session 16
In the Eldwythe sewers Terry read the papers and found that Maelis had been “mainly transporting stuff to Duskwatch” [10]. The DM placed Duskwatch a couple of days from Mirestrand and from Velkris, and said that most of her cargo went through Dock 13 and landed there [11]. Where it went next, the party could not tell [12], and Hugo saw nothing in the papers relating to the sewers they stood in [13].
Status
As of session 23. Unvisited. The ledger is still in Hugo’s keeping. In session 19 the party meant to redeem it in Velkris [14], but the party has since travelled north towards Umbrafall instead [15].
