Dock 13 is a berth in the docks on the east side of Umbrafall. It is named in play as the place where Aurelians were taking Mira Hale, last heard of in a barrel on her way there, and as the outlet for most of Maelis Dirn’s shipping to Duskwatch [4][2][3]. The party has never visited it.

Overview

Dock 13 is a berth in the docks on the east side of Umbrafall, named in play for two reasons. The Aurelians who took Mira Hale from the Dawn Mercy Clinic were last heard of taking her there in a barrel [4], and most of Maelis Dirn’s shipping went out through it to Duskwatch [3]. The party has never visited it.

Geography and appearance

Hugo knew roughly where the docks lay, though not which berth was 13, and the DM said the docks were “relatively to the eastern side” of Umbrafall, while Aurelia’s docks lie on its west side [5]. Small rivers feed into the main river there [6]. Nothing else has been described.

Notable features

  • A route to Aurelia. The Aurelians were using the dock to carry off people who showed magical ability [7]. Umbrafall to Aurelia is a day by boat or four days to a week on foot [8].
  • A route to Duskwatch. Maelis’s forged shipping papers show her cargo going out through Dock 13 to Duskwatch, and what happened to it there is not known [9].
  • An open question. The two uses share one dock. Nothing on the record says whether the Aurelian operation and Maelis’s smuggling network were connected.

History in the campaign

Session 10: Ruin Joins, the Aurelian Conspiracy, the Plate Armour

Drew, the Dawn Mercy Clinic’s orderly, said that the last he heard the Aurelians were taking the barrel to Dock 13, and corrected himself: “the girl was in the barrel” [4]. Hugo worked out where the docks lay [5]. Afterwards Caelumn thought they “might have to go visit” Dock 13, and Hugo answered “Not today” [10]. Hugo then told the Broker that the Aurelians had used Dock 13 to carry out their business in Umbrafall and to abduct people with magical ability [7].

Session 11: Owlbears and the Soulbinder

Hugo’s player recapped session 10 for the table, saying that Mira Hale had been “taken about four days previously and taken to dock 13” [11]. The party then agreed to see to its own business in Eldwythe before looking into Aurelia and Risa’s sister [12].

Session 16: Through the Sewers, Onto the Skiff

In the Eldwythe sewers Terry read Maelis Dirn’s forged shipping papers and found that she had been “mainly transporting stuff to Duskwatch” [13]. The DM added that the majority of her cargo “was sent through dock 13 in Umbrafall and landed in Duskwatch” [3]. Where it went from there, the party could not tell [14].

Status

As of session 23. Unvisited, and not named in play since session 16. The party has not been inside Umbrafall since session 11, and nothing is known of what became of Mira Hale after Dock 13.
