Overview

The Aurelian coast landfall (s18) is the unnamed stretch of Aurelian coastline where the party swam ashore on 843-03-30 after the giant winged catfish destroyed the party’s skiff ^[4]. The landfall is described as “wet rock uh pale sand and low grass bending in the wind” with rough waves “and they don’t really carry you gently and they shove you forward and then drag you back by the legs” ^[5]. The site was not given a place-name on-screen.

A short walk inland the party found an Aurelian-aligned farming cottage hosted by a quiet farmer-couple, who agreed to let the party long-rest there without asking questions. This is the site of Caelumn’s Vhal’Zarim / Bahamut / Platinum Order backstory dump ^[6] and where Mike summoned the fey deer familiar Bobby for the overnight watch ^[7].

Significance

• First Aurelian-territory landfall on-screen. The party’s first physical entry into Aurelian-controlled coastal territory in the campaign’s southern arc. Everything that follows in s18 (the road, the patrol, Mike’s death) starts here.
• Long-rest site. The cottage was where the party recovered from the open-ocean exhaustion levels picked up during the swim (Terry, Mike, Caelumn at 1 level of exhaustion each, recovered on long rest).
• Caelumn’s backstory anchor. The fire-side conversation at the cottage produced the campaign’s first full Caelumn / Vhal’Zarim / Bahamut / Platinum Order narration.
• Mike’s last full night. The cottage long rest is the last sequence in Mike’s character life before the patrol encounter the following morning.

Geography

A stretch of Aurelian coastline somewhere between the Sapphire Sea open water and the inland approach to The Bright Gate / Aurelia proper. The cottage was a short walk inland from the surf-line; the gate-approach road continues inland from there. The s18 patrol intercept happens approximately one day’s walk further inland ^[8], L2012). The site sits within Aurelian-faith territory: the cottage’s farmer-couple gave the sign of Aurelia, and the party self-censored their magic accordingly throughout the long rest.
