The unnamed yuan-ti woman is the snake person who shared Sunset is Nigh’s Lair with the wyrmling in session 3, and the campaign’s first NPC to kill a player character. Her double bite on Cholmondeley opened with a natural 20 for 9 piercing and 21 poison damage, and he died soon afterwards with the words “I hate you all.” [2]. She twice used Suggestion to send Hugo out of the fight and cried “Nagini!” when he killed a baby snake [22][14][15]. Vasquez cut her down from behind, and she is dead or presumed dead; her name, faction and origin were never learned [20].

Overview

The unnamed yuan-ti woman is the campaign’s first NPC to kill a player character. She shared Sunset is Nigh’s Lair with the wyrmling, with a pit of snakes at her back and a side room behind it where the party found a desk, a wardrobe and books and nothing of value [4][5]. The party never learned her name, her faction or her origin, and the campaign has not returned to the question.

Appearance and demeanour

The DM called her “the snake person” and sketched her only in passing [6][7][8]. She fights from the side with small snakes around her, and when Hugo cut a baby snake in half she cried out “Nagini! Nagini!” [9]. The party took her room for the place “where the woman had all those snake babies from”, and Hugo joked that he had “killed her baby” [10][11]. The snakes in the pit were not hostile once the fight was over [12].

Abilities as played

She bit twice a turn, and the first bite of her first turn was a natural 20, 9 piercing and 21 poison [13]. She cast a Suggestion on Hugo, who failed a Wisdom save on a 9 and felt “a very strong suggestion that you should probably just leave now”, and she did it again later, to the same result [14][15]. Caelumn’s second Fire Bolt scorched her and broke her concentration, and his Shield turned both of her next bites, a 20 and a 19 [16][17].

In the dragon’s chamber a snake person came at the party from a side passage with a pit of snakes behind her [4]. Hugo cut down a baby snake, and she cried “Nagini! Nagini!” [9]. She went for Cholmondeley, opening with a natural 20 for 9 piercing and 21 poison, and sent Hugo out of the cave with a Suggestion; Cholmondeley failed to stabilise and died with the words “I hate you all.” [2]. Caelumn’s Fire Bolt broke her concentration and his Shield turned her bites, and she sent Hugo away again [25]. Vasquez then went for the culprit of Cholmondeley’s death, stabbed it in the back and sliced it in half [20]. The snakes were not hostile, and the party searched her room [12][5].

Status

As of session 23. Dead or presumed dead after the lair fight (DM ruling 44); Vasquez’s stab in the back at [26] is taken as her death. She has not reappeared, and nothing has been learned about her.
