The Shade Mistress is, per the DM’s world brief, one of the most powerful shadow figures in Umbrafall, named in the city’s roster of real power structures alongside The Broker, the Nightwatch, the Rat King, and the Black Cartels. She has not appeared in play: her only mention is Risa’s remark in session 8 that, if anyone controls the corrupt Nightwatch, it would be her [2]. Nothing else about her is established.

Overview

The Shade Mistress is named in the DM’s world brief as one of Umbrafall’s most powerful shadow figures, one of the city’s principal real power-holders alongside The Broker, the Nightwatch, the Rat King (catalogued at The Rat), and the Black Cartels. The party has not met her. The one thing play has added is Risa’s guess, in session 8, that the Shade Mistress is whoever stands behind the corrupt Nightwatch [2]. Nothing else about her (domain, methods, faction allegiance, appearance) is established.

Session 8: Bruise the Cellmate, the Succubus, and the Quarry Ghosts

Main article: Session 8

With Vasquez in the cells of the Nightwatch, the party worked out how far the corruption around the Dawn Mercy Clinic ran. Risa, voiced by the DM, told them that if anyone controls the Nightwatch it would be the Shade Mistress, though she could not see why the Shade Mistress would want to kill people at random [2]. The name was not followed up in play, and the Shade Mistress has not been met in any later session.

Status

As of session 23. Unknown and off-screen. She has not appeared in play, and nothing but the world brief and Risa’s remark [2] places her in Umbrafall.
