Sevryn is a silver dragonborn chronurgy wizard who gathered the first adventurers at the Hollow Hall Tavern in Gloamhearth and put the Egg in their hands, the quest that drives the campaign [17]. He has not appeared in person in any recorded session: he reaches the party by a voice in the mind [25] and by sealed letter, and in one letter he admits that he sent Harvo knowing Harvo would not come back [22]. In session 23 the newcomer Kole said that Sevryn had told him where to find the party, about three days earlier by the DM’s reckoning [24][15].
Overview
Sevryn is the silver dragonborn chronurgy wizard who set the campaign in motion. The first adventurers met him at the Hollow Hall Tavern in Gloamhearth in the unrecorded session 1. He told them that magic was falling apart across the world and that the Egg, which feeds on chromatic dragons and their hoards, gave them a chance to change that fate [17]. He has not been seen in person in any recorded session. He speaks into the party’s minds and leaves sealed letters, and the party first learned of Harvo [18], Earthwing [19], Terry [20][21] and Ruin [22] as people he had sent. In session 23 a further newcomer, Kole, said that Sevryn had told him where to find the party [23][24].
He is a quest-giver in the strict sense and something of a chorus besides. His sight “blurs” and is fallible [25], but he looks through the time streams [20], and in writing he admits to sending a man he knew would not come back, because the party’s path “only stays open” on those terms [22].
Appearance and demeanour
A silver dragonborn [17]. No further physical description is given, and the unrecorded session 1 is the only time the party has seen him. In thought and on paper he is calm, formal and apologetic: the session 3 voice is “calm but urgent” [26], and the session 10 letter says sorry, thanks the party and does not soften what is coming [22]. His letters are vellum sealed with a single stamped S and signed with it, and the first one appeared by Harvo’s pyre with no footprints and no messenger [27]. Its seal carried a scent Vasquez knew from his first letter from Sevryn [28].
Abilities as played
- Telepathy: a voice pressed into the whole party’s thoughts at once [26].
- Foresight: he told the party he looks through the time streams [20], and Caelumn recalled that he can see several of them [29]. His sight failed him over the dragon in Eldwythe: it “blurs”, and he could not fix its nature or lair [25].
- Letters without a messenger: the vellum strip at the pyre, which Vasquez found when no one was watching [27].
Relationships
- The Egg: his project, and the campaign’s nominal main thread [17].
- Cholmondeley and Harvo: on an Insight check the DM told Vasquez that Sevryn most likely knew Cholmondeley would die and had Terry ready [20]; of Harvo, Sevryn wrote that he knew Harvo “wasn’t coming back” and sent him anyway [22].
- Earthwing, Terry and Ruin: newcomers the party understood him to have sent. Earthwing was taken in on that assumption [19]; Ruin received only a letter and did not know who Sevryn was [30].
- Kole: met him about three days before session 23 and was told where to look for the party [24][15].
- Gwen Homora: named Sevryn alongside the party in session 3 when she said she hoped the grove’s sickness could be stopped [31].
- The Black Mask: frames the egg quest as “your little quest for Sevryn” in the wager she offers the party [32][33].
- Briochebane: the DM suggested that Sevryn’s magic “may have misfired” and sent the party after a golden dragon [5].
Disposition towards the party
Sevryn wants the egg quest finished, and his letter shows he will spend party members to keep it on course. It is apologetic but does not offer to change the plan: the party may leave now, or stay “with your eyes open” [22]. The party’s feelings run from loyalty to irritation. Caelumn guessed that the tiefling coming their way “was sent by oh dickwad Sevryn” [34]; Terry did not want to face him with news that the Egg was lost [35], and Hugo still means to report to him [9].
Notable quotes
“I sense a dragon’s presence in the town of Eldwythe, but the sight blurs beyond that. I cannot fix its nature or lair.” — Sevryn, telepathic, [25]
“If he knows, then why doesn’t he just send the best?” — Vasquez, on Sevryn’s foresight, [36]
“the path you’re on only stays open if the wrong thing happens at the right time” — Sevryn’s letter, read aloud at Harvo’s pyre, [22]
“there are more sacrifices ahead, bigger ones, and the kind you don’t recover from” — Sevryn’s letter, read aloud at Harvo’s pyre, [22]
“Sevryn telling you everything is happening the way it’s supposed to” — Nick (DM), closing narration, [6]
History in the campaign
Session 2: The Bark, the Dryad, and the Riddle that Wasn’t a Tree
Main article: Session 2
Sevryn does not appear, but this session holds the only account of his briefing. At the start of the session, Cholmondeley’s player recapped the unrecorded session 1: a silver dragonborn announced himself at the Hollow Hall Tavern as Sevryn, a chronurgy wizard, said that magic was failing and the world would collapse, and pointed the party at an ancient green dragon’s hoard near Wyrmbough Grove for the Egg to absorb [17]. Later Harvo met the party at the tree line, sent by a letter from someone named Sevryn whom he had never met [18].
Session 3: The Lair of Sunset is Nigh and the Death of Cholmondeley
Main article: Session 3
After the Egg had drawn the dragon’s hoard essence and Cholmondeley had been buried, the party was arguing over whether Nancy should travel with it when a calm but urgent voice pressed into their thoughts and the DM said it was Sevryn. He sensed a dragon’s presence in Eldwythe, but “the sight blurs beyond that”, and he urged them to go there quickly and carefully [37]. That evening Earthwing joined them at dinner, and the party took him in on the assumption that Sevryn had sent him, “the second person he sent” [38][19].
Session 4: The Still Current, the Black Mask, and Hugo’s Pact
Main article: Session 4
Sevryn is off-screen but argued over. With Terry newly at the table, the DM told Vasquez, on an Insight check, that Sevryn had said he looked through the time streams and so most likely knew Cholmondeley would die, sent him anyway, and had Terry ready [20]. Vasquez asked aloud why he did not simply send the best, and Caelumn suggested he might have been preparing for the worst case across several streams [39]. Terry remarked that Sevryn “seems to be pulling people from all around the world” [21]. The Black Mask’s wager to the party was framed as “your little quest for Sevryn” [32].
Session 10: Ruin Joins, the Aurelian Conspiracy, the Plate Armour
Main article: Session 10
As Harvo’s pyre burned low, a folded strip of vellum sealed with a stamped S appeared on a stone beside the coals; Vasquez knew its scent from his first letter from Sevryn [40]. It said that Sevryn had known Harvo “wasn’t coming back” and sent him anyway, that bigger sacrifices lay ahead, that they could leave now if they wished, and that a tiefling named Ruin would meet them at camp [22]. Vasquez asked how S knew where they were going when he did not [41]. Ruin said he had received only a letter and did not know who Sevryn was [30]. On the road to Umbrafall, when Caelumn worried that Sevryn would send the party to its death as readily, the DM said “so far everything happens as it was supposed to” [42].
Session 14: The Gummy Mummy and Aurelian Eldwythe
Main article: Session 14
When Briochebane proved to be gold with a little red, and the Egg did not react to him, the DM said that “Sevryn’s magic may have misfired and accidentally sent you on the path to a golden dragon” [5]. In the clearing outside Eldwythe, now held by Aurelian forces, the party found it had no way to contact Sevryn and wondered whether he knew it had the wrong dragon; the DM said they may have met him in Gloamhearth [43][44]. Hugo proposed taking Brioche to Sevryn, “a powerful dragonborn”, who could return him to Phil Flowerforge once the Aurelians left [45].
Session 16: Through the Sewers, Onto the Skiff
Main article: Session 16
With the Egg lost, Hugo suggested going to Sevryn to tell him it was gone, and perhaps learning a way to locate it [46]. The session closed on the skiff setting sail for Aurelia, and the DM’s narration said that what rang in the party’s minds was Sevryn telling them everything was happening the way it was supposed to [6]. That is the DM’s closing line; the scene does not show Sevryn sending a message.
Session 17: New Hands, the Black Mask’s Renegotiation, and the Rimeclaw
Main article: Session 17
Terry’s player gave the new players a campaign recap that began with a silver dragonborn wizard named Sevryn handing the party a glowing egg and pointing it at a dead dragon’s hoard [47]. Later, briefing Mike and Steven, Terry said he did not want to “go back and face the time wizard and tell him that we lost his thing” [35]. Mike replied that the party had got itself mixed up with a chronomancer [48], and Hugo said that a former party member had tried to back out and Sevryn “wasn’t having any of it” [49].
Session 18: The Wyrm Falls, the Catfish Escapes, and Mike Dies on the Road
Main article: Session 18
As the skiff came in towards land, Steven’s Perception caught a giant red-scaled dragon flying overhead and on north [50][51][52]. Hugo asked whether it was “the red-scaled one that Sevryn was talking about” [8]. Minutes later something lit up the sky where the dragon was heading, and the DM allowed that it was “kind of like a nuke” [53][54]. Terry joked “Good job Sevryn” [55]. Nothing in play confirmed that the dragon was the one Sevryn meant.
Session 19: A Penitent Priest, an Unmade Leash, and the Pixie in the Dark
Main article: Session 19
With the raid on Aurelia abandoned, Hugo set the new heading: redeem the forged ledger at Velkris, then “update Sevryn on what happened and they got the dragon wrong”, since a red dragon had flown up to Aurelia instead [9]. The “wrong dragon” is the party’s own theory, not confirmed by the DM. Sevryn did not appear or send word this session. The DM has since said that he is alive as far as the party knows, and that the plan to update him at Gloamhearth does not guarantee his location or availability (DM clarifications, 2026-09-27).
Session 20: The Man Who Was Always Here
Main article: Session 20
On the road to Umbrafall, after an omen and a reading of failing ley lines, Caelumn told Barney that the party might find the dragons “without waiting for a divine revelation”, and that he did not think Sevryn had ever fully explained the fix [56][57]. On a History check the DM gave the explanation: arcane energy stems from the world dragon, which is slowly dying; Sevryn gave the party the Egg to hatch a new one; it needs magical power; and chromatic dragons stored theirs in their hoards, which is why he sent the party after them [10].
Session 23: The Changeling in Manacles
Main article: Session 23
Sevryn is not present, but Kole, a prisoner in the ridge temple, spoke into Caelumn’s mind that he “was sent to assist you with the dragon egg” [58]. Terry guessed who had sent him, and Kole confirmed it [12]. Kole said he had been sent on his path by “a very powerful individual” and then met “a lovely dragonborn” who told him where to find the party [24]. The DM put that meeting at “roughly three days” earlier, and said Sevryn told Kole only that adventurers were trying to use the egg to save the world, not that they had lost it [15][16]. Terry admitted the party has not reported its loss [14].
Status
As of session 23. Alive: Kole met him in person about three days before the night at the ridge temple, by Kole’s account and the DM’s reckoning [24][15]. The last message he is shown sending the party himself is the session 10 letter [22]. Where he met Kole is not stated, so his last known base remains Gloamhearth, where the party means to find him; the DM has confirmed the plan without guaranteeing his location or availability (DM clarifications, 2026-09-27). Whether he knows that the Egg is lost, and who the “very powerful individual” behind Kole is, are not stated [24][16]. The party has still not reported the loss [14].
