Seraphine is the sacred sovereign of Aurelia and the living vessel of the Pure Light’s goddess, ruling from Crownspire (world brief). In session 19 the goblin Gristleback told the party that she “destroyed five Archmages by herself” in what he called the Arcanvian War, and that “she’s the leader of Aurelia” [10]. She has not appeared in person; session 19 is her only mention in play.

Overview

Seraphine is the sacred sovereign of Aurelia, head of the Shining Bastion’s state and the living vessel of the Pure Light’s goddess; to her people she is both holy ruler and divine protector (world brief). She rules from Crownspire, the palace-cathedral-fortress at the heart of the city.

She has not appeared in person. In play she is known only from session 19, when the goblin Gristleback named her to the party as the leader of Aurelia and the woman who destroyed five Archmages by herself [2]. Nothing in play says whether the feat is literal.

Appearance and demeanour

A radiant figure in golden armour, whose appearances at the city’s great public rites draw vast crowds in reverent silence. When she addresses them she speaks of purity, duty, vigilance and the greatness of Aurelia’s calling (world brief). None of this has been seen in play.

Relationships

  • Aurelia: she is its ruler, “the leader of Aurelia” [3]. Her single sacred order of guards, soldiers, priests, clerks and inquisitors upholds her laws (world brief).
  • Pure Light: she is the living vessel of its goddess (world brief).
  • Gristleback: the destitute goblin who told the party of her, and who would not want to “deal with her” [4].
  • The “Arcanvian War”: the DM’s name for the war in which she fought the Archmages (spelling unconfirmed). It may be the War of Fractured Heavens, the Aurelia-Arcanthys conflict of 582 to 589 A.I., but the DM has not confirmed that (the DM’s post-s21 clarifications, 2026-09-27).

Disposition towards the party

None known; she has not met them. Caelumn’s reaction to the news was that it “certainly made our plans slightly clearer” [5].

The party’s talk with Gristleback turned to Aurelia, and he asked Steven whether he knew of Seraphine, “the chick that took on five Archmages and basically didn’t get a dent” [7]. She had “flown through the sky” in the Arcanvian War and “destroyed five Archmages by herself”, and he would not want to deal with her [4]. Steven asked if she was Aurelia’s; she was its leader, he said [8]. Caelumn answered that this “certainly made our plans slightly clearer” and set off towards Eldwythe, the party having already voted to abandon the Egg raid for now [9][5].

Status

As of session 19. Alive, ruling Aurelia from Crownspire (world brief). In play she is known only by Gristleback’s report and has not been seen [2].
