Rime is a young male silver dragon, a wyrmling in the DM’s words (“It’s a Wyrmling. He’s not very powerful.”, [49]), whom the party found hiding inside the great hooded statue of the ridge temple north of Greysmere in session 22. Wounded by an Aurelian bolt, he told the party of hunters who had tracked him there and of a woman calling herself “Mother Sarah”, then let Father Thomas and Caelumn heal him and promised to help them face her [6][11][13][17]. In session 23 he came out of the statue and pointed them to a sealed door that needs “the black orbs” [28][69]. In session 24 he is only a voice: he will “join you when you go to fight Sarah”, says “she’s completing the ritual”, and does not know where the orbs are [59][61][72].
Overview
Rime is a silver dragon wyrmling, male in the DM’s narration (“his left shoulder”, [6]), whom the party met in session 22 in the statue room of the ridge temple. He had been hiding inside the towering hooded statue that the DM later calls “the Vecna statue” [1][42], speaking through its mouth to send the party off on an errand and buy himself time [43][19]. The DM gave the name in his own voice, “Uh, yes. My name’s Rime.” [7]; the spelling is unconfirmed, and a question for the DM.
He is the party’s only source for the woman he calls Mother Sarah and for the Aurelian hunters who tracked him to the temple [11][13]. Everything he says about them, and about the temple’s numbers and the sealed door, is his own account.
In session 24 he is heard but not seen, and his name is not spoken; the party calls him “the dragon” and, once, “Mr. Dragon Man” [39][44].
Appearance and demeanour
A small silver dragon “keeping one foreleg close to its chest as a black bolt protrudes below his left shoulder”, shown to the table in a picture [6]. He flies [20]. The DM calls him “just a Wyrmling. It’s just a little guy.” [45]. He is wary and quick to panic, at first cagey and then polite and grateful: “Thank you. That’s very kind of you.” [20]. He is vague about numbers, “I’m bad with faces”, and about the rest of the temple, “I’ve just been here.” [46][47]. In session 24 he is not seen, and the DM describes only “multiple conduits going to the statue” [48].
Abilities as played
He speaks through the statue’s mouth, flies, and hides. In play he has done no fighting: the DM reminded Hugo that he is only a wyrmling when the flameskulls woke, and none of his actions was narrated in the fight at the sealed door, which ended in session 24 [49][50][38][51].
Relationships
- Caelumn: devout in the Platinum Dragon faith of Vhal’Zarim, he took Rime for platinum, “Platinum One”, and pressed him to admit it. Rime answered “I’m just a silver dragon”, and Father Thomas backed him: “It’s silver” [52][53][54]. Played for character; it gives Rime no title.
- Father Thomas: Rime took his Aurelian seal for the hunters’ and panicked, then let him draw the bolt [55]. In session 24 it is Father Thomas who calls on “Mr. Dragon Man” for help and who reads his urgency as pain [39][56].
- Terry: vouched for Thomas, “He’s a good one, somehow” [57].
- Kole: knelt to him in session 23 [58].
- Mother Sarah: the woman who “came in here a couple of weeks ago” [11]; probably the Mother of the kidnappers of Pell, though the DM has not said so. In session 24 he says only “Sarah” [59].
- Aurelian forces: the hunters who tracked him to the temple [13].
Disposition towards the party
An ally. He bought time with a ruse, then admitted it (“I guess you saw through my ruse”), and offered to “give you a hand” against Sarah once the party was ready [17][19]. In session 23 he agreed at once to join the assault [60]. In session 24 the offer stands, for the fight with Sarah only [59].

History in the campaign
Session 22: The Dragon in the Statue
Main article: Session 22
Beyond the mural’s door, a voice in the hooded statue questioned the party, demanded “the covered meal from the dining room” and warned Terry off [62]. When Caelumn peered in, a small silver dragon squeezed out through a panel at the back with a black bolt below his shoulder, and gave his name [63]. He begged the party to stop a woman, “Mother Sarah”, then panicked at Father Thomas’s seal until Terry vouched for the cleric, who drew the Aurelian bolt [64]. Caelumn healed him for 15. He admitted that the demands had been a ruse to buy time, promised help against Sarah and crawled back into the statue [65]. Asked how many cultists there were, he guessed “maybe 12” [18].
Session 23: The Changeling in Manacles
Main article: Session 23
Hugo reckoned that the dragon would gladly help against the cult’s leader, and the party went back to the statue, where Kole knelt and Caelumn again called him the Platinum Dragon [25][66]. Rime came down the stairs inside the statue and out of the hatch, asked whether they had found a way into “the middle sanctum”, and now put the cultists at “At least more than five” [67]. Told they had fought a female cultist, he agreed to help and pointed to a door that needs “the black orbs” [68][69]. When Father Thomas struck it and the fight began, no action of Rime’s was narrated before the session paused [47][50][38].
Session 24: The Knight of Smoke
Main article: Session 24
Rime is heard but not seen. When the last skeleton fell and a low chanting began, Father Thomas called on “Mr. Dragon Man”, and Rime answered “I’ll join you when you go to fight Sarah.” and “Now hurry, she’s completing the ritual.” [51][39][59][61]. Later the party went back to the statue room, where the DM described “multiple conduits going to the statue” and Rime said “You got to hurry.” [48]. Asked where the black orbs were, and shown the one Kole held, he said “I don’t know.” both times [70][71]. Father Thomas took him to be in pain “because of the ritual”, which is his own reading [56].
Status
As of session 24. Alive, unseen, last placed in the statue room [48]. He has promised to join the party for the fight with Sarah and does not know where the orbs are [59][72]. Open questions for the DM: the spelling of his name (not spoken in session 24); what the conduits are, and whether he is in pain, as Father Thomas reads it [48][73]; why Aurelians hunt a silver dragon, and what seal he saw on Father Thomas [13][74][75]; whom “She wasn’t supposed to start taking people.” meant [6]; and what “the middle sanctum” and the black orbs are [29][69]. On Father Thomas’s History check the DM said Aurelia hunted dragons “together with Vhal’Zarim”, “chromatic ones but the metallic ones too”, which is not reconciled with the Karvos account ([14]; see Vhal’Zarim).
