Pell is the son of Orrin Sol, the innkeeper of Greysmere, taken from the village by undead on the night the party arrived in session 21 [1][2][5]. He has never appeared on screen: Fen, the only witness, says three people in charcoal robes dragged him north with undead because “Mother wants him alive.” [7]. The party took the job for “50 gold now and 150 gold” and followed the trail to a temple in a ridge, where four sessions of searching have not found him; in session 24 they voted three to two to stay and look for him [6][8][27].

Overview

Pell is the son of Orrin Sol, the innkeeper of Greysmere, taken from the village by undead on the night the party arrived [1][2][5]. He has never appeared on screen, so everything about him is reported by others, and the search for him is the thread that has carried the party through the ridge temple across four sessions. The DM confirmed the spelling Pell after session 21 (the DM’s post-s21 clarifications, 2026-09-27) and again at the table in session 22 [28][29].

The kidnapping is known only from Fen’s account: three people in charcoal robes, with undead, dragged him north, and one of them said “Mother wants him alive.” [7]. Who Mother is, and why she wants him, is unknown. Rime later speaks of a woman, Mother Sarah, who “wasn’t supposed to start taking people”, but the DM has confirmed no link between the two [15][30].

Appearance and demeanour

Nobody in the party has seen him. His father describes him as “medium hair. Brown. A bit skinny.” [4], and says he looks nothing like the humanoid figure who fled the session 20 road ambush [3]. In session 24 the table is split on whether he is “a child” or “a young man”, and the DM gives no age [25].

Notable quotes

“It was three people, right? They’re all in charcoal robes. They were accompanied by several undead. at least like 50, I think. One of them said, one of them said, what was it? Mother wants him alive. And they said this is why they were dragging him up north to the woods.” — Fen, [7]

“She wasn’t supposed to start taking people.” — Rime, [15]

“if that person dies because we didn’t help them, then their blood is on our hands” — Kole, [31]

History in the campaign

Session 21: The Hand That Points North

Main article: Session 21

Pell was taken “Just this night.” by what his father called “undead creatures” [2][5]. Orrin hired the party to find him for “50 gold now and 150 gold”, and Caelumn accepted [6][32]. Fen told Father Thomas that three people in charcoal robes had taken him north [7], and Laura Bennett agreed to wait for the party until about midday [33]. Following the severed hand, a trail of silver paint and a single wheelbarrow track, the party walked about 40 minutes to a temple in a ridge [34][8]. The cell block held skeletons, an empty cell and the living skin, not Pell [9][35]. The session paused mid-fight with the search unfinished [12].

Session 22: The Dragon in the Statue

Main article: Session 22

Before play resumed, Terry checked the name and the spelling with the DM: “Two L’s.” [36][13]. Inside the temple, Caelumn told a speaking statue that the party had been “sent by a nearby village to look for kidnapped children” [14]. The voice was Rime, a wounded silver dragon wyrmling, whose first words on showing himself were “She wasn’t supposed to start taking people.” [15]. He named Mother Sarah [30]; whether she is the Mother who wanted Pell alive is not stated. The party killed the living skin and a regenerating kobold and found only an unidentified skinless corpse [37][38][39]. At the close “roughly one cultist and what seems to be five undead minions” walked in, and the DM promised a level up once the dungeon was done [16][40].

Session 23: The Changeling in Manacles

Main article: Session 23

Pell is not named, and the search did not advance. The prisoner the arriving cultist was leading in was Kole, a new player character, not Pell, and the DM’s “sacrifice” was said of Kole [17][41][19]. The players spoke of “kidnapped children”, “kids” and “the captives”, plurals that are theirs, since only Pell is known to be missing [18][42][43]. Three leads were seen and left: a sloping passage behind the cultist’s secret wall, a stair down from the hall of mist, and a sealed door that needs “the black orbs” [44][45][46]. The session paused mid-fight with Pell unfound [23], and the party stayed on for the promised level up [47].

Session 24: The Knight of Smoke

Main article: Session 24

Pell is not named by the DM and not found. Father Thomas, who could not recall his name, thought he was “a human sacrifice” and wanted to leave; Kole answered that if he died “their blood is on our hands” and asked “Do you have so little faith, Father Thomas?” [24][31][48]. The table was split on whether he is a child or a young man, and the DM gave no age [25][49]. After the break the DM said “You are running out of time”, and Caelumn, Kole and Terry voted three to two to stay and look for him [50][27]. The DM does not link Rime’s “she’s completing the ritual” to him [51].

Status

As of session 24. Captured, whereabouts unknown, still unseen, and unnamed by the DM this session. The only word on his condition is “Mother wants him alive.” [7]. The party stayed on by three votes to two [27]. Not yet tried: the stair down from the hall of mist, whose faces now strike, and the sealed door that needs “the black orbs” [45][46][52][53]. Laura Bennett will hold her caravan at Greysmere only until about midday; the party reckoned five or six hours remained in session 23, Father Thomas spoke in session 24 of being back “before the sun comes up”, and the DM confirmed none of these [33][54][55][56].
