Orrin Sol is the innkeeper of Greysmere, the small village of graves a day’s ride short of Umbrafall, and the father of the kidnapped Pell [23][24][5][6]. In session 21 he hired the party to find his son, taken by undead that night, offering “50 gold now and 150 gold” for his return, and warned of “Really weird raids of late.” [5][8][9]. He was last seen at the inn, waiting for news.
Overview
Orrin Sol keeps the only inn in Greysmere, which is also its only tavern [1], and owns the storehouse “just out back” that raiders had broken into [13][15]. He is the father of Pell, the son taken from the village by undead on the night the party arrived [5][6][8].
Nobody addresses him by name on-screen. The name comes from Laura Bennett, who says she will “get settled up with Orrin” for the party’s room and board [11], and from the DM’s description of “a list that Orrin seems to have made of his missing inventory” [17]. The DM confirmed after the session that it is written Orrin Sol (the DM’s post-s21 clarifications, 2026-09-27).
Appearance and demeanour
His race and appearance are not described. The party found him “counting coins into several small stacks” behind the bar [2]. He poured ales with a showman’s flourish and gave Father Thomas a sceptical look as the cleric tested the drinks [3][4]. He asked whether the party were adventurous and went straight to his plea, and he spoke of the only witness as “Poor lad” [18][14].
Relationships
- Pell: his son, “medium hair. Brown. A bit skinny.” [19].
- Fen: the local who saw the kidnapping and cut off the hand; Orrin sends the party to him and to his mother’s house [6][10][16].
- Laura Bennett: the travelling merchant who employs the party as guards; their room and board go on her bill at his inn [11].
Disposition towards the party
Businesslike and hopeful. He treats the party as hired help and offers payment for results, an advance and a larger sum on his son’s return [5][9]. He is not unfriendly, but he is plainly sceptical of Father Thomas’s inspection of his drinks [4].
Notable quotes
“Would I be able to purchase your skills? It’s my son.” — Orrin Sol, [5]
“I’ll be able to pay you 50 gold now and 150 gold if you manage to to bring him back also Really weird raids of late. Stealing stuff.” — Orrin Sol, [9]
History in the campaign
Session 21: The Hand That Points North
Main article: Session 21
When the party entered the inn, Orrin was counting coins behind the bar and offered rooms, food or stabling [2]. He poured their ales, charged three silver and eyed Father Thomas’s water test [3][4]. Then he asked whether they were adventurers and begged their help: his son Pell had been taken by undead that night, and Fen had cut off a hand outside [20][8]. He offered 50 gold now and 150 on Pell’s return, mentioned strange raids of late and sent them to Fen [21]. Once Caelumn accepted, he pointed them to the storehouse, the open graves and Fen’s mother’s house [22]. His list of the stolen stock turned up in the storehouse: silver paint, brushes, rugs, food, a dragon chess set, rope and wheelbarrows [17].
Status
As of session 21. Alive, at the inn in Greysmere, awaiting news of his son; off-screen after the party left to search the storehouse [16]. Promised to the party: 50 gold up front, whose payment is unconfirmed because no coin is shown changing hands, and 150 gold on Pell’s return [9][12].
