Mira Hale is Risa’s sister, abducted by Aurelian agents from Umbrafall under the cover of the Dawn Mercy Clinic’s alleged-cremation services. She had been suffering headaches and seeing things, and once turned a candle on with her mind — the kind of latent magical capability the Aurelian programme appears to target. The clinic orderly Drew confessed her name and abduction route under Caelumn’s three-nat-20 Intimidation in session 10: “They were Aurelians… They already had a name. Mira Hale … they were taking her back to Aurelia” [8]. She was shipped via Dock 13 four days before the s10 confession; her current condition is unknown.
Overview
Mira Hale is the sister of Risa, abducted by Aurelian agents from Umbrafall for showing magical capabilities. Per Risa’s account to the party in s8, Mira had been “seeing things” and once “swore that she turned on a candle with her mind” [3]. She was registered as ill at the Dawn Mercy Clinic; the clinic later told Risa they had burned the body because it was infected, and returned an urn [2]. When Hugo opened the urn he noted that it did not smell like a dead person [6]; under intimidation in s10, the orderly Drew confirmed that what Risa had received in the urn was lime rather than ash.
Role in the campaign
Mira is the named victim that ties Risa’s personal grief in Umbrafall to the Aurelian abduction programme the party has been peripherally tracking through Project Veilbreak and the Broker’s contracts. The s7 street-fight outside the Whisper Coil Emporium — where two corrupt Nightwatch guards tried to take the urn from Risa [1] — is the first on-screen appearance of the cover-up’s logistics; the s10 confession by Drew is the moment “Mira Hale” enters the wiki as a name.
History
Session 7
Risa first appears in the street outside the Whisper Coil Emporium, “fight[ing] for her sisters what seems to be her sisters remains” [7]. The party intervenes.
Session 8
Risa explains the Dawn Mercy Clinic’s cover story: “she didn’t tell — she was seeing things. She swore that she turned on a candle with her mind” [3]. The party agrees to help.
Session 10
The orderly Drew, under Caelumn’s three-nat-20 Intimidation streak, confesses:
“They were Aurelians. They came a few days ago. They had papers. They weren’t looking for patients. They already had a name… Mira Hale said that she had shown um, um magical capabilities and they wanted her for some reason.” — Nick (DM) (voicing Drew), [8]
Drew adds that the Aurelians had been taking her “back to Aurelien” [9]; that “the night watch found out” [10]; and the last he saw of the abduction party was “taking the barrel to dock 13” — with “the girl… in the barrel” [11]. Per Drew’s account this was four days before the confession.
Status as of session 16
Captured. In Aurelia (presumed). Alive at time of abduction. The party is now sailing toward Aurelia via the White Lantern Shrine; Mira’s recovery is one of the active s10-onward objectives.
