Mira Hale is the sister of Risa, the woman with the urn, whom the Dawn Mercy Clinic reported dead and burned [8]. In session 10 the clinic’s orderly Drew confessed, under Caelumn’s Intimidation, that Aurelians with papers had come for her by name because she had shown magical abilities, and had taken her in a barrel to Dock 13, bound for Aurelia [10][11]. She has never appeared in person, and the party has not gone to look for her.

Overview

Mira Hale is the sister of Risa. The Dawn Mercy Clinic told Risa that her sister had died of an infection and had to be burned, and handed over an urn that proved to hold lime [8][9]. In session 10 the clinic’s orderly Drew confessed that Aurelians had come with papers and “already had a name”, hers, because she had shown magical abilities, and that she had been taken in a barrel to Dock 13 and was by now in Aurelia [10][11]. She is the named victim that ties Risa’s grief to the Aurelian abduction of people with magic, and she has never appeared in person.

Appearance and demeanour

No one has described her looks or voice. All that is known comes second-hand: according to her sister she was ill, “was seeing things” and “swore that she turned on a candle with her mind” [12], and Drew said she had shown magical abilities [13].

History in the campaign

Session 7: Maelis Falls, Vasquez Captured

Main article: Session 7

Outside the Whisper Coil Emporium two Nightwatchmen tried to pull an urn from a frightened young woman, who begged them not to take “the last thing I have of her” [23]. She was fighting for what seemed to be her sister’s remains, and Vasquez judged that she was not faking [24]. The woman was Risa, named in session 8; her sister’s name was not yet known.

Session 8: Bruise the Cellmate, the Succubus, and the Quarry Ghosts

Risa told the party that the Dawn Mercy Clinic had said her sister died and had to be burned because she was infected, and that the clinic’s log put the burning at ten and a visit to her at ten-twenty [25]. The urn smelled of lye, and Hugo said it was not ashes [26][27]. She added that her sister had been “seeing things” and had sworn she lit a candle with her mind [12]. The party agreed to help once their friend was free, and Risa said she would wait at the inn from three to five each day for two weeks [28][15].

Session 10: Ruin Joins, the Aurelian Conspiracy, the Plate Armour

Under Caelumn’s flames and a run of three natural 20s, Drew confessed that Aurelians with papers had come a few days before and already had a name, Mira Hale, who had shown magical abilities [29]. They were taking her back to Aurelia, and she had gone in a barrel to Dock 13 four days earlier [30][11]. Hugo suggested taking the Broker’s assassination contract, since its target was in Aurelia too; Caelumn answered that Risa had never asked them to fetch her sister, and that a large Aurelian group might be too much for them [5]. Back at the inn the party told a drinking Risa that her sister was alive but taken to Aurelia, and promised to look into it when their business allowed [20].

Session 11: Owlbears and the Soulbinder

In the opening recap Caelumn’s player put right a slip: the sister was not dead, only taken [31]. Asked whether they had agreed to go and save her, Hugo’s player answered that they would conduct their own business first and look into Aurelia afterwards, and the table went along with it [21].

Status

As of session 23. Taken, and presumed alive in Aurelia [22][32]. She has not been mentioned since session 11, and the party has not gone to look for her.
