Leo is Nessa’s son, met by the party on a drifting fishing boat on the open Sapphire Sea in session 17, with his mother and his sister Pim. His mother described him as “a little bit half asleep. Almost like a bit sunken in, like he hasn’t eaten”, and the family’s food had been washed overboard [6][3]. He does not speak on screen. After Mike mended the boat’s sail and gave them rations, the family sailed on towards Gloamhearth [15][7][14].

Overview

Leo is the son of Nessa, a fisherwoman the party met on a wrecked fishing boat on the open Sapphire Sea in session 17, where she was travelling with him and his sister Pim. His father had been taken “into the road offices” by officers three nights before, and the family’s food had been washed overboard [3][4]. Leo is a minor figure: the only description of him is his mother’s, and he has no recorded dialogue.

Appearance and demeanour

A small boy, “a little bit half asleep. Almost like a bit sunken in, like he hasn’t eaten”, sitting under a wet blanket beside his mother and sister [5][6]. He says nothing in the scene.

Relationships

  • Nessa: his mother, who introduced him by name and took him and Pim towards Eldwythe after her husband’s arrest [6][7].
  • Pim: his sister, who gave Mike a pebble she called Captain Stone; Leo gave nothing [8].
  • Nessa’s husband: his father, taken for “unauthorized studies” [4].
  • Mike: gave the family two rations [9].

Disposition towards the party

None is shown. Terry, still suspicious after the party’s run of bad luck, joked that the children might be demons who would stab them in their sleep [10].

Notable quotes

“And that right there is Leo. He’s and a little bit half asleep. Almost like a bit sunken in, like he hasn’t eaten.” — Nessa (Nick, DM), [6]

History in the campaign

Session 17: New Hands, the Black Mask’s Renegotiation, and the Rimeclaw

Main article: Session 17

At dusk the skiff came upon a drifting fishing boat with a torn sail, a woman standing with one hand raised and two children under a wet blanket [5]. When she introduced them, Leo was the one who looked half asleep and sunken in, as though he had not eaten [6]. Their food had gone overboard, and Mike gave two rations [11]. The woman said her husband had been taken into the road offices and she was taking Pim and Leo to Eldwythe; the party pointed her towards Gloamhearth, and she sailed on [12][13][14].

Status

As of session 23. Alive and off screen, last seen sailing towards Gloamhearth with his mother and sister in session 17 [14]. He has not been mentioned since.
