Jorin and Harak are the two Nightwatch clerks at the Umbrafall jail who released Vasquez in session 8 for a bribe of 150 gold, against an official price of 500 [5][6][7]. Harvo talked them from 100 gold each down to 150 between them, and they warned that Vasquez would hang if he meddled again [12]. They put the log entry that called Vasquez a “bitch-ass elf” down to a colleague, Jack [2].
Overview
Jorin and Harak are the two Nightwatch clerks who staff the desk of the Umbrafall jail. They appear once, in session 8, when Harvo came to buy Vasquez’s release: the official price was 500 gold for his freedom, his belongings and a clean record, and the unofficial one, after some haggling, was 150 [4][5][6][7]. They show that the Nightwatch can be bought.
Appearance and demeanour
Two guardsmen behind a long desk on a raised platform inside the jail door, waiting for custom [4]. They are cynical and quick to spot a bribe: asked for a discount, one turned to the other and asked, “Jorin, is he trying to bribe me?”, and when Harvo wandered into a speech about bureaucratic nonsense, one grew impatient and demanded to know whether he really had the 500 [8].
Relationships
- Each other: they confer in whispers before naming a price [6][9].
- Harvo: the party member who dealt with them; he had taken no part in the street fight with the guards, which is why the party sent him in [10][11][12].
- Vasquez: their prisoner. They fetched his armour and weapons and tossed them on the floor [13].
- Jack: a colleague whose log entry for Vasquez read “bitch-ass elf”; one clerk wondered aloud whether the entry was Jack’s, and joked that Jack might have been “up for it” where he was not [2][14]. He is not the cellmate Jack.
Disposition towards the party
Mercenary rather than hostile. They would let Vasquez go for money and no questions, and sent Harvo off with a warning: “if we catch him meddling around again, he’ll get the noose.” [15].

Harvo, who had taken no part in the street fight, went to the desk and asked for Vasquez’s release [10][11]. The clerks found one booking that day, written down as “bitch-ass elf”, and quoted 500 gold for release with belongings and a clean record [17]. Harvo’s patter about paperwork and a hundred gold in five minutes led them to ask 100 gold each, and he settled on 150 between them after a Persuasion check [18]. They warned that Vasquez would hang if he meddled again; once the party had paid, a clerk brought him out and returned his armour and weapons [15][3].
Status
As of session 23. Alive, presumably still at the jail, and unseen since session 8 [19]. The party has not been back.
