Jack is the spindly human cellmate Vasquez woke to find sharing a Nightwatch cell in Umbrafall in session 8. Jack offered Vasquez chicken-flavoured rats (“the rats sometimes taste a bit like chicken”), misheard Vasquez’s alias “Cruz” as “Bruise”, and bestowed the prison nickname that remained Vasquez’s official jail entry on the records (“bitch-ass elf” was the formal log; Bruise was the cellmate’s preferred form, [1].
Overview
Jack is the spindly human in the corner of the Nightwatch jail cell where Vasquez woke after his s7 arrest. The recap describes him as the cellmate who, on a single beat of dialogue, gave Vasquez the prison name that has followed him ever since. Vasquez gave him the alias “Cruz”. Jack heard “Bruise”. Bruise it remains.
He eats prison rats. He recommends them on the grounds that “sometimes [they] taste a bit like chicken” [2]. He warns against messing with Nightwatch.
Notable quotes
“You don’t want to mess with Nightwatch. No, no, no, no, no. That’s, yeah, it’s a bad idea. But I’m sure we’ll be friends. Tell me, do you like chicken? … The only reason I’m asking is because the rats sometimes taste a bit like chicken.” — Jack, [2]
Status as of session 16
Alive, presumed still in the Nightwatch jail. Vasquez was bailed out for 150gp; Jack was not. The party did not return for him.
