Glenn is the Aurelian patrol knight who executed Mike on the road outside the Bright Gate in session 18, the morning after the party’s coastal landfall (in-game 843-03-31). Full plate, greatsword, paladin-flavoured (radiant rider on hits). Dropped Mike to 0 HP in a single round with two greatsword swings (22 to-hit for 9 slashing + 1 radiant, then 17 to-hit for 14 slashing + 7 radiant; [2] after the confessor detected Mike’s Message cantrip cast through the Mizzium Apparatus. On the top of Round 2, Glenn raised his greatsword and “made one cut about two thirds through his neck and raised it again before completely severing the head” (Nick, [4], with DM commentary “that was max fucking damage” [8]. The patrol confiscated the Mizzium Apparatus and Mike’s spellbook, parted with a friendly “good day” [6], and continued on. Glenn was canonically named at [7] onward; the DM voiced him as “Geralt” once at [3] (transcript artefact). The DM’s clarification at [9] confirms Glenn is a rank-and-file patrolman, not a named elite.
Overview
Glenn is the Aurelian patrol knight who killed Mike on the inland road approach to the Bright Gate in session 18. He is, per the DM’s own out-of-character clarification, “just a nobody, just a patrolman” (Nick, [9] - rank-and-file Aurelian field force rather than a named elite. He led an on-road patrol of three armoured men plus a confessor that intercepted the party the morning after their landfall (in-game 843-03-31). The encounter began as a friendly stop-and-document conversation; it escalated to combat when Mike attempted to cast Message through the Mizzium Apparatus and the confessor’s arcane detection flagged the cast [10]. Glenn delivered the entire combat output of the patrol - the other two knights stood back and never acted on-screen.
Appearance and combat profile
Full plate armour, greatsword, paladin-flavoured with a radiant rider on hits - consistent with (but explicitly separate from per the DM-corrections register) the s10 Aurelian Paladin and the s15 Aurelian Chain-Master. Capable of two greatsword attacks per round at high to-hit modifiers (+8-ish based on the 22 and 17 hits on Mike’s AC). The DM’s combat profile in play:
- Round 1 [2]: two greatsword swings on Mike - 22 to-hit, 9 slashing + 1 radiant; 17 to-hit, 14 slashing + 7 radiant. Mike dropped from full HP to 0 in a single round.
- Round 2 [4]: execution swing on the unconscious Mike - “his sword above head, you see him make one cut, it makes it about two thirds through his neck, and raise it again before completely severing the head.” Nick (DM): “that was max fucking damage” [8].
The first-attack damage profile (9+1) and second-attack damage profile (14+7) suggest a high-HD, high-damage greatsword build - comfortably CR 5+ on per-hit output, though no formal HP/AC/save profile was ever shared on-screen. The patrol fight was DM-rated winnable but high-difficulty (Nick, [11], so Glenn should be treated as a credible solo threat with adequate party support, not a one-shot encounter boss.
Session 18 - the execution
The patrol approached the party on the road inland from the cottage long-rest site, ten or fifteen minutes from the Bright Gate. Glenn took lead and ran the documentation conversation: “Where are you headed?” [1], “Where are you coming from?” (L1995), “You hail from Eldwife or were you just passing by?” (L2003), “what business do you have in Aurelia?” (L2007), and the operational instruction “if you find any arcane heretics make sure to report them to us so we can swiftly dispose of the scum” (L2012). Mike attempted to cast Message discreetly to coordinate the documents bluff using the Mizzium Apparatus; the confessor’s Morotic detection flagged the cast (L2044); the DM ruled the Mizzium-cast counts as arcane spellcasting (L2047); initiative was called (L2058).
Glenn charged Mike and dropped him in one round of two greatsword swings [2]. Steven tried to talk the patrol down on disadvantaged Deception; the confessor’s Insight beat the roll (L2115); the confessor’s order was first “kill the heretic and bring him in” (L2115) then walked back to “he seems to be telling the truth” - sparing Steven and the rest of the party but committing Mike to execution. Hugo declined the The Black Mask intervention offered at [12] and formally pre-disowned the casters (L2243). Caelumn took Dodge after Hugo refused to frontline (L2267). Terry stood down after the DM ruled Bladesong qualifies as unsanctioned arcane power (L2176-2182). At the top of Round 2, Glenn raised his greatsword and decapitated Mike in two cuts for max damage [13]. The patrol confiscated the Mizzium Apparatus (L2287) and Mike’s spellbook (L2437), parted with “good day” (L2296), and continued on - recommending the Bright Gate as the party’s entry point into Aurelia (L2304).
Status
Alive, on patrol. Last seen walking away from Mike’s roadside grave at [6]. No on-screen identifier ties Glenn to any named Aurelian command structure; he is operationally tied only to the unnamed confessor who attached to his patrol. He should be treated as a recurring background presence rather than a one-off - the party is now committed to entering Aurelia and the patrol’s parting directions were specific.
