Edvan is the legendary elven hero who killed the ancient green dragon Death-at-Sunset generations before the campaign begins, in the battle that founded the burial mound at the heart of Wyrmbough Grove’s Corrupted Redwood Grove. Per Gwen Homora’s account, 34 elves under Edvan’s leadership fell against Death-at-Sunset; Edvan struck the killing blow with a “mighty long sword” [1]. The party encountered an echo of him in s3 — an androgynous elf in gleaming plate mail and an empty scabbard, witnessed at the burial mound by Harvo [2]. The empty scabbard matched the Dragonslayer Longsword looted from Death-at-Sunset’s hoard, suggesting the sword is Edvan’s and that Caelumn now wields it.
Overview
Edvan is a pre-campaign elven hero, leader of the elven resistance against the ancient green dragon Death-at-Sunset. Per Gwen Homora’s s3 briefing, 34 elves gave their lives in that battle, and Edvan delivered the killing blow with a long sword [1]. All 34 fallen, including Edvan, were buried in a ceremonial mound at the heart of what is now the Corrupted Redwood Grove near Wyrmbough Grove. The mound’s sacred ground is the only patch of the grove that the dragon’s residual corruption never tainted.
Role in the campaign
Edvan appears only as a ghostly echo. In s3, after the party cleansed the grove, Harvo walked back to the burial mound at dusk and witnessed fading images of dead elven warriors with tall spears, “uttering cryptic warnings in common and elvish” [2]. Foremost among them was Edvan, an androgynous elf in gleaming plate mail and an empty scabbard. The echo did not respond to interaction; an insight check confirmed it was a loop, not a presence [4]. Harvo noted the scabbard’s shape and confirmed it matched the Dragonslayer Longsword the party had looted from Death-at-Sunset’s hoard [5] — strong implication that Death-at-Sunset’s killing weapon was Edvan’s, and that Caelumn now carries Edvan’s sword into the campaign’s onward arc.
Note: the campaign bible and Caelumn’s character file both attribute the burial-mound vision to Caelumn rather than Harvo. The transcript at [6] is unambiguous that the walking PC was Harvo (Caelumn was eating dragon steak with Fergus at the time, [7]. This is a longstanding wiki error.
