Dr Flem Josenge is the scientist who narrated and signed the Project Veilbreak log that The Black Mask played to Hugo in session 4: a clinical account of 140,000 candidates cut to seven by injection, arena combat and a cellular rewrite of their biology [1][2]. Hugo did not recognise his name [3], but demanded in his pact that the Mask help him “take out the scientist that did this thing to us”, and the contract promises help killing one doctor [4][5]. The doctor has not appeared on-screen.
Overview
Dr Flem Josenge is the scientist who narrated and signed the Project Veilbreak recording that The Black Mask played to Hugo in session 4 [1][2]. The log describes the project’s first phase: 140,000 candidates, an injection that killed half of them within 24 hours, glowing viscous fluid in place of their blood, two rounds of arena combat that left “a mere total of 7 candidates” [2]. It is the closest the campaign has come to direct documentation from inside The Ascendancy. Hugo did not know the name [3], and the doctor has not appeared on-screen.
Appearance and demeanour
Known only by voice, on the recording: clinical and detached. He and “my fellow colleagues” planned to spend the following days “reviewing footage of the arena combats to scout promising candidates” [2].

History in the campaign
Session 4: The Still Current, the Black Mask, and Hugo’s Pact

In the black void of The Still Current Inn, the Black Mask played Hugo a recording headed “Log 1. The first trial. The Arena of Calling” [1]. It ended with the narrator’s signature, which Hugo did not recognise [2][3]. Later, summoning the Mask alone, Hugo agreed to the pact on condition that the Mask help destroy the group or at least “take out the scientist that did this thing to us”; the Mask said “okay sure I will” [9]. The DM’s summary of the signed contract says that, in return for ten years’ service, the Mask “will help you kill one doctor” [5].
Session 12: Eldwythe and the Candy Cottage

The doctor is not named. When Hugo asked the Black Mask to free him of the Ascendancy’s hold, the Mask said that he would have to break into the group’s secret headquarters, “find the lead doctor, have him explain how the mind control works” [6]. This wiki presumes the lead doctor is Dr Flem Josenge; the DM has not confirmed it.
Status
As of session 23. Unknown and off-screen. Hugo wants him dead, and the Black Mask has promised to help; the doctor’s whereabouts are not established.
