Bubba Walker is the seven-foot, one-eyed baby doll in a diaper, made of wood, who guards the kitchen door of Uncle Nibblecheek’s Candy Cottage with a menacing lollipop [1][4]. The party fought him in session 13, after Caelumn set a conjured owlbear on him, and ended it with a bargain: three kinds of candy for passage to the kitchen [9]. In session 14 he took the candy to his room and was busy eating it while the party fought Nibblecheek [34][6].

Overview

Bubba Walker is a giant baby doll that guards the kitchen door of Uncle Nibblecheek’s Candy Cottage: more than seven feet tall even seated, in a diaper, with a single cyclopean eye and a menacing lollipop [1]. He is made of wood [7]. The party fought him in session 13, though the DM said more than once that the fight was avoidable [3][8], and ended it by bargaining: three kinds of candy for passage to the kitchen [9]. He was not killed.

Appearance and demeanour

He speaks like a small child, in a booming voice: “kitchen’s closed” [1]. His wants are simple: “do you have candy” [10], and, told that Vasquez is now taffy, he asks whether he can eat him [11]. He is chatty but not unkind, warning the party off the trap tiles [2] and explaining his post: “Uncle Nibblecheek don’t like visitors” [12]. When hurt he turns brutal, announcing “Me smash now” and shredding the owlbear [13].

Abilities as played

He fights with the lollipop, three strikes a turn, and is hard to hurt: Caelumn’s Witch Bolt only tickles him [14]. His wooden body splinters under the owlbear’s claws and Vasquez’s sword [15][7]. He seized the owlbear and tore it to shreds [13]. The party’s pause to fetch candy left him at near full health [16].

  • Uncle Nibblecheek: his master, who “gave me candy”, and keeps him on “a real short leash” [17][18].
  • Bubblegum Halfling: calls him “Uncle Nibblecheek’s little kid” and “kind of my brother, a little bit” [19].

Ruin’s step back sprang a rolling-pin trap in the floured hallway that flattened the party and turned Terry and Ruin into gingerbread; Bubba chuckled, warned them off the trap tiles and asked for candy [26]. Caelumn conjured an owlbear from the Soulbinder’s ring and started a fight [27][20]. Bubba shrugged off a Witch Bolt, shredded the owlbear and proved to be made of wood [14][7][13]. Once he was bloodied, Vasquez’s persuasion won a bargain: three kinds of candy and he would let them into the kitchen [9]. The party broke off to fetch taffy, an orchard apple, which he ate hungrily, and gingerbread [21][28][29][30].

Session 14: The Gummy Mummy and Aurelian Eldwythe

Hugo reminded the party that the baby works for Nibblecheek and was to be told to eat his candy in his room [31]. Ruin handed over the candies and told him to be a good baby and eat them there; Bubba squeezed past down the hall, and Ruin blew the kitchen door open with Thaumaturgy [32]. When the fight with Nibblecheek began, the DM noted that “Bubba Walker is busy chowing down on candy” [6]. The players joked that they should have killed the baby while they had the chance [33].

Status

As of session 23. Alive and presumed to be still at the Candy Cottage, where the bargain held. The Aurelian occupation of Eldwythe has not been shown reaching the cottage.
