The unnamed Aurelian Paladin of session 10 led a four-man ambush on the party in an Umbrafall street after the Dawn Mercy Clinic confession. He fought with a greatsword whose radiant rider, the DM said, came simply from being “blessed by Aurelia”, and it burned Mharos, “the demon within” Vasquez [2][28][12]. He was killed by Ruin’s Eldritch Blast, and his Nullstone-runed plate became Vasquez’s armour, re-crested with his adopted family’s mark [6][7][26].

Overview

The unnamed Aurelian Paladin of session 10 led the alley ambush on the party in Umbrafall, a couple of blocks from The Broker’s office, after the Dawn Mercy Clinic confession [3][4]. He came with three lighter-armoured men [5]. His sword’s radiant damage burned Mharos in Vasquez; Ruin killed him; and his Nullstone-runed plate became Vasquez’s armour [2][6][7].

Appearance and demeanour

He looks “extremely Aurelian” [8], in full plate with the Aurelian crest worked into the armour itself [9]. He says little: facing Hugo, who would not go down, he looks “stressed” and asks “Why won’t you go down, demon?” [10]. He dies kneeling, looking to the heavens one last time [6].

Abilities as played

Two greatsword swings a turn, each adding radiant damage; the DM said he was “just blessed by Aurelia” and was not smiting [11]. The radiant burned Mharos in Vasquez and made the fight punishing for him [2][12]. He used a reaction to riposte Hugo’s last attack [13]. His armour turned Ruin’s Witch Bolt aside [14].

Relationships

  • Three lighter-armoured men: his escort. One, with two daggers, tried to turn Caelumn: “Why don’t you come join the winning side?” [15].
  • Vasquez: downed twice by his sword, the demon in him burned each time [16][17].

Four men followed the party for four blocks through an Umbrafall street, one in extremely Aurelian armour; when the crowd thinned a dagger flew past Caelumn [21]. The Paladin stepped in with his greatsword, two swings that put Vasquez down, burning Mharos with the radiant rider [11]. He downed Vasquez again, hit Hugo, and riposted [22][13]. Ruin’s Witch Bolt was turned by his armour, but Caelumn’s Chromatic Orb hit, and Ruin’s Eldritch Blast finished him [23][24]. Hugo took the sword and dragged the body to the Broker [25]. Ruin’s Identify met the armour’s resistance and showed it to be Nullstone; Vasquez re-crested it with his adopted family’s mark [7][26].

Status

As of session 23. Dead. His greatsword and plate went to Vasquez to experiment with [27]; Vasquez has been departed offscreen since the session 17 retcon (DM ruling 25). The plate is described on Aurelian Plate Armour with Nullstone Runes, the sword on Aurelian Paladin’s Greatsword.
