Archmagister Vylarine Thael is the ruler of Arcanthys, the floating empire of magic, and the custodian of the Grand Conflux, the reality-warping apparatus that defends it (world-brief canon). The brief gives her two traits: a cold brilliance, and an obsession with transcending mortality to become a being of pure arcane essence. She has not appeared in play and no recorded session speaks her name; the party’s only links to her city are its natives, Harvo [2] and, from session 23, Terry and Kole [3][4].

Archmagister Vylarine Thael is the ruler of Arcanthys, the floating empire of magic, and the custodian of the Grand Conflux, the reality-warping apparatus anchored in the Grand Conflux Spire that fought Aurelia’s Nullstone Constructs to a stalemate in the War of Fractured Heavens (world-brief canon; see the world brief). The brief gives her two traits: cold brilliance, and an obsession with transcending mortality to become a being of pure arcane essence.
She has not appeared in play, and no recorded session speaks her name. The party’s only links to her city are its natives: Harvo, who gave Arcanthys as his birthplace in session 2 [2], and, from session 23, Terry and Kole, who both say they are from there [3][4].
Appearance and demeanour
The brief says nothing of her looks. Her temperament is cold brilliance, which this wiki reads as the rationalist face of Arcanthys’s high magic, set against High Seer Orlun Marr’s prophecy and Lessa Sunweave’s craft. Her personal project, the brief says, is to dissolve mortality into pure arcane essence; how far it has gone is not stated.
Relationships
- High Seer Orlun Marr and Lessa Sunweave: the two other Arcanthys figures the brief names.
- Grand Conflux and Grand Conflux Spire: she is its personal custodian. Whether the office passes between Archmagisters, or she has held it unusually long, the brief does not say.
- Aurelia: Arcanthys has been “in open confrontation with Aurelia for quite a while, and now it’s kind of a Cold War, sort of”, the DM told the party in session 23 [5].
Disposition towards the party
None yet: the party has not met her or dealt with her regime. Harvo, asked about his home city, disowned its establishment: “I am very much not part of anything official” [6].
