Alston is the shifty blonde-shaved-haired dwarf who runs the Whisper Coil Emporium, a healing-potion shop near (but not inside) the Black Hollow Market in Umbrafall. One eye replaced by a bioluminescent fungal orb. He sells healing potions at 50gp each, mixes experimental bio-gloom-tinged variants, and was named in session 11 by his own self-introduction (“Feel free to give good old Alston a call”). Harvo famously got the better of him in s7 by trading the bio-gloom mushroom-cap-jar for 5 healing potions; the DM acknowledged Hugo’s “ripped off the shopkeeper” check [3].
Overview
Alston is the dwarf proprietor of the Whisper Coil Emporium in Umbrafall. Blonde-shaved-haired, one eye replaced by a bioluminescent fungal orb, opened “just last month” per his s7 self-description. He sells healing potions at 50gp each and runs a small line of bio-gloom-tinged experimental potions of unknown effect that he asks customers to try and report back on.
His best-known interaction with the party: in session 7 he was matched to Harvo’s alchemist’s-supplies trade. Harvo offered the rare bio-gloom mushroom-cap-jar from Maelis’s research desk; Alston eagerly accepted and gave him 5 healing potions in return. The DM later acknowledged Hugo’s check: Harvo “ripped off the shopkeeper” by a wide margin [3].
In session 11 he offered another experimental trial: Ruin drank a blue potion and was paralysed for 10 minutes plus one level of exhaustion [4]. Alston compensated with a free healing potion and sent the party off with a black experimental potion to test on someone else (still in Caelumn’s pack as of s16, untested).
His self-introduction in s11:
“Feel free to give good old Alston a call.”
