Vedalken

Vedalken is the race of Mike, the caster played by Brian from session 17 (the DM confirmed the name and spelling, post-s17). The traits shown in play are few: blue skin on a small human or elf frame, and partial amphibiousness, which lets Mike breathe underwater for up to an hour [2][3]. Mike was the only Vedalken met in play, and an Aurelian patrol executed him in session 18. Hugo’s player named a different blue-tinged race in the same session, Voidforged, and nobody at the table has linked the two.

Overview

Vedalken is the race of Mike, the caster Brian brought to the table in session 17. The DM has confirmed the name and its spelling (post-s17 corrections register). Mike is the only Vedalken met in play, so everything known of the race comes from how Brian played and described him.

Known traits

  • Blue skin, small frame. Brian describes Mike as “a blue human or a blue elf”, quite small [2]. The DM, introducing the newcomers to Caelumn, called him a Vedalken that “looks kind of like an elf” [6].
  • Partially amphibious. Mike can breathe underwater for up to an hour before he has to hold his breath: “Partially amphibious. I can breathe underwater for up to an hour.” ([7]; again at [4]). He called it “a partially amphibious feat” [8].

Relationships

  • Voidforged: the blue-tinged race of Hugo, named in the same session. Hugo’s race is one that does not need to breathe [9], and he describes himself as pale, with slightly blue-tinted veins [10]. The two have been described differently and nobody has compared them in play; the wiki treats them as distinct races.

The race arrives with Brian’s new character. Brian introduced himself as playing “Vedalken, Cleric, Druid, Wizard” [1] and, describing Mike half-dead on a piece of shipwreck, said he was blue because he was a Vedalken, quite small, “a blue human or a blue elf” [2]. On the skiff he explained that he could breathe water for an hour, a partially amphibious trait [3]. That hour is what Hugo’s breath-holding bet turned on [11][12]. The DM later told Caelumn the party had found a halfling and a Vedalken [6].

Status

As of session 23. Canonical spelling Vedalken. Mike, the only Vedalken met in play, was beheaded by an Aurelian patrol in session 18 [13], and no other Vedalken has appeared.
