Vedalken
Vedalken is the canonical race for Mike (per DM correction, post-s17). The Whisper transcript rendered the name in at least six variants (Valdekin, Veldekin, Vidalcan, Vildulcan, Vildalcan, gudolkin, Vidolkin); all were transcription errors for Vedalken. Known traits: blue-skinned (small human or small elf body type, per Brian’s [3] description); partially amphibious - can breathe underwater for up to one hour [9], L170); small stature; ~145 lb at full kit. Distinct from Voidforged per the DM’s [7] clarification - both have visible blue-tone biology but are different lineages.
Overview
Vedalken is the canonical race for Mike. The name was rendered in at least six Whisper-side variants across session 17 (Valdekin, Veldekin, Vidalcan, Vildulcan, Vildalcan, gudolkin, Vidolkin); the DM has since confirmed that all of these were transcription errors for Vedalken, and Vedalken is the canonical spelling going forward. The historical Whisper variants are preserved in aliases: so that older wikilinks and transcript references continue to resolve.
Known traits (from session 17)
- Blue-skinned. Brian describes Mike as “a blue human or a blue elf” - small stature, blue-tinted skin [3].
- Partially amphibious. Mike can breathe underwater for up to one hour per a racial / feat trait [9], L170): “It’s a partially amphibious feat. Partially amphibious. I can breathe underwater for up to an hour.”
- Small stature. ~145 lb total weight at full kit, including chain mail, shield, and backpack [6]. 20-ft walking speed [10] - Terry: “That 20 foot walking speed, that’s going to hurt”).
- Body type analogous to small human or small elf [3].
Distinct from Voidforged
In session 17 the DM clarified out-of-character to Ash (the new player) that Hugo’s race is something separate - Voidforged - and not the same as Mike’s:
“oh yeah by the way Ash so just so you know Hugo is playing something called a void forged that don’t need to breathe but for all intents and purposes I look completely… human, more or less”
- Nick (DM), [7]
Both races have visible blue-tone biology. They are confirmed distinct. The visible blue tones are separate features, not the same feature on different races.
Historical note on transcript variants
The post-s17 Whisper transcript rendered the race name in at least six different ways: Valdekin [1], Veldekin (Brian’s own pronunciation when corrected), Vidalcan [11], L785, L792), gudolkin / Vidolkin [12]-L792), plus Vildulcan and Vildalcan. Per the DM’s post-s17 corrections register, all of these are transcription errors for Vedalken; the canonical spelling is settled. The Whisper variants Veldekin/Valdekin/Vidalcan etc. were transcription errors for Vedalken.
Status as of session 17
Canonical spelling: Vedalken. Race confirmed distinct from Voidforged; traits documented per above.
