Terry: Inventory

Inventory for Terry (Chris’s character from session 4), a tortle wizard, Bladesinger from session 14, whose shell holds his belongings and doubles as bagpipes [19][14]. He fights with the silvered short sword Caelumn handed him in session 6, a scimitar and a hand crossbow [1][39][26], wears the Cloak of Protection he chose as the DM’s magic item in session 11 [73][3], and calls the owl Earthwing back with Find Familiar, though it keeps dying [2][89]. In session 22 he held The Book of Secrets briefly before handing it to Father Thomas, and in session 23 he kept The skeleton’s greatsword, whose wielder had twice lowered his maximum hit points [63][7][8]. In session 24 he took The root room’s wooden staff from the roots, gave his blood for the second of The black orbs, and was brought back from 0 hit points by a healing potion from the party inventory [10][102][144].

Equipment (mundane)

  • Shell and bagpipes: he arrived “with bagpipes on his back” [13]; “my shell is bagpipes” [14], played over his Bladesong [15]. He withdraws into the shell as an action [16][17]; a tortle “can hold his entire household in his shell”, tent included, and he keeps his possessions inside it [18][19]. Father Thomas’s reading that it gives “a plus 4 AC” went unchallenged [20]; a greatsword pierced it in session 23 [21]. Fate: part of him.
  • Crossbow: “a light crossbow” with True Strike in session 5 [22], a hand crossbow from session 6 on [23][24][25]; in session 22 it did three radiant damage to a flameskull [26][27]. In session 24 he fired it blind into the mist at disadvantage, and the bolt hit a wall [28][29][30]. Fate: carried.
  • Silvered short sword: from the Warrens storeroom, “I could use that short sword”, handed over by Caelumn [31][1]; his True Strike blade [32][33] and later his off-hand weapon [34]. In session 23 it came out of a zombie coated in black goo and found the gap in a greatsword skeleton’s guard [35][36][37]. Fate: carried.
  • Scimitar: his Bladesinger weapon from session 15 [38][39]. It ended the first temple fight in session 21 [40] and cut Kole’s manacle chain in session 23 [41][42]. In session 24 a critical hit with it on the third skeleton did “some damage but not a lot” [43][44][45]. Where he got it is not recorded. Fate: carried.
  • “The rapier”: the weapon he named with True Strike in session 24, “true strike with the rapier” [9]. No rapier is on record for him, and his weapons are the scimitar and the silvered short sword. Fate: unexplained; a question for his player.
  • Knife: lent to Caelumn to skin a sabretooth [46][47]. Fate: not mentioned again.
  • Shield: “I’m using a shield at the moment” [48]. He passed on the Gloom-Touched Buckler Caelumn offered him, “Alright, you take it then.”, to Hugo [1][49]. Fate of his own shield: not mentioned again.
  • Spellbook: Absorb Elements, Alarm, Detect Magic, Find Familiar, Shield and Silvery Barbs by his own list [4], with paper to scribe a scroll of Silvery Barbs [50]. Fate: carried.
  • Kit: a lantern, which needed oil [51]; five rations bought for 25 silver [52][53], hardtack kept in his shell [54]; a notebook with his sketch of the dwarf contact [55].
  • Crooked Broom: taken off Caelumn for his disguise, “I’m just here to brush the floors, boss.” [56][57][58]. Fate: not mentioned after session 14.
  • Ilmater pendant: from the dead priest in the quarry, “let me take this thing and I’ll rip it off his neck” [59][60]. Fate: not mentioned since.
  • The Book of Secrets (s22, held briefly): he took it “for further study” and hid it in his shell [61][62], kept it from Caelumn in a contested Athletics check [6], and handed it to Father Thomas “because he asked nicely” [63]. Fate: Father Thomas’s.
  • Coin: a man tried to nick his gold pouch in Mirestrand [64][65]; 25 gold of the mining money [66]; 10 gold won from Steven on Hugo’s breath-hold [67][68]. In session 20 the DM docked five gold for the wagon theft and Terry paid Laura Bennett ten gold to buy out his share [69][70]; her fee was “25 up front and 25 on arrival” [71], and whether her later “50 total” replaced the buy-out is unresolved [72].

Magic items

  • Cloak of Protection: his pick of the DM’s out-of-game gift of an uncommon magic item in session 11 [73][74][3]. Mike’s Detect Magic made it glow [75][76]. Fate: worn.
  • Earthwing the owl (Find Familiar): bought five incense for the ritual in session 7 [77][78][79], and after two interrupted tries summoned him in session 8: “I call him Earthwing.” [2][80]. Shot dead at once, six piercing and eight necrotic [81][82][83]: “There better be something that killed my familiar I’m coming to find you motherfucker” [84]. Re-summoned in session 11 [85], he scouted in sessions 12 and 13 [86][87] until “Something came out of the dark.” in the sewers [88][89]. Not summoned since [90][91]. Fate: dismissed until a new ritual.
  • The skeleton’s greatsword (s23): found on the first greatsword skeleton [92]. “I don’t have the carry capacity to hold any of this.”, then he picked it up; to his question the DM said “It definitely has runes inscribed on it, but it’s hard to tell.” [93][94][95], and “I’m going to hold on to it.” [8]. Not confirmed magical; how he carries it is not narrated. In session 24 it is not mentioned, and he said that “so far there hasn’t even been a weapon I can fucking use” [96]. Fate: carried by the record.
  • The root room’s wooden staff (s24): when the roots would not give it up, he readied an action, and once water had drawn the roots off he ran in and the DM said “But you have the staff.” [97][98][10]. Caelumn asked for a look, and he said “you take the stuff” [99][100]. Not identified; the holder is not settled. Fate: Terry’s or Caelumn’s.
  • The second black orb (s24): the vampire-lord statue took his wrist for 8 necrotic damage and opened a compartment with an orb [101][102][103]. Kole said he would pass it to him, “you deserve to hang on to this one” [104]; no later line shows it in his hands. Fate: his on Kole’s word only.

Consumables and components

  • Healing potions: in session 6 he fed someone the party’s greater healing potion for 14 [105][106] and dug one out of Caelumn’s “crotch pocket” for him [107][108]. In session 7 “Terry’s red liquid”, his last, went down the downed Vasquez’s throat through the mask [109][110][111]. Hugo healed him with a potion for 5 in session 16 [112]. In session 11 he passed on Alston’s payment for Ruin’s trial, “I’ll give it to you.” [113][114].
  • Anti-toxins: Hugo’s, drunk in session 21, which cleared “the undead plague from your system” [115][116]; session 22 still played him as poisoned, and a second dose cleared it, “you are no longer poisoned” [117][118]. Whether session 22 was a slip or a relapse is a question for the DM.
  • Healing potion from the party inventory (s24): the knight of smoke took him to 0 hit points, and Father Thomas fed him the potion he had taken from the party inventory, as a bonus action, for 10 hit points [119][12]. Fate: drunk.
  • Goodberries: two from Father Thomas in session 22 for reviving the fallen [120][121]; “those good berries are fucked on us now” while the plague blocked healing [122]. None eaten.

Permanent notes

  • Charisma (s9, s20). He botched the Rite of Returning at Harvo’s pyre and lost a point of Charisma “Permanently” [123]; in session 20 he hummed Harvo’s melody and “you gain a charisma point back” [5].
  • Bladesinger from session 14, Bladesong first used in session 15 [124]. The DM assumes his attacks in Bladesong are magical: “uh yeah i’ll assume so” [125][126].
  • Shadow Blade, first cast in session 15, killed a kuo-toa outright and has the thrown property [127][128][129].
  • Maximum hit points lowered (s23). The greatsword skeleton’s blade cut them by 8 and then “even further” [7][130]; no long rest had followed when session 24 paused, and the party said it could not even short rest [131].
  • Bladesong (s24). He had one use left [132] and kept it back as “my emergency” in the knight fight [133].
