Ruin: Inventory at Death

Inventory for Ruin (Mordane’s second character, sessions 10 to 15), a tiefling warlock with a healing-type subclass, sent to the party by Sevryn’s letter at Harvo’s pyre [35]. He carried little: a dagger he could not use, rations, the 20 gold he took from Phil Flowerforge in a private deal, and healing potions taken where he could, one of them snatched from Caelumn mid-fight [7][3][4]. His Identify served the party, on the Aurelian plate and the +1 greataxe [1][5]. He was killed at the start of session 15 by an Aurelian chain-master’s chain [6], and nothing of his is shown being recovered.

Equipment (mundane)

  • Dagger: “my dagger that I can’t fucking use” [7]. By session 14 it was missing: “I should have a dagger, but I can’t find it.” [8]. Fate: not recorded after his death.
  • Rations: “I had plenty of them in my bag.” [9]. Fate: lost with his body.
  • Coin: at his prompting the party moved to per-character treasure, and the Broker’s 100 gold went four ways without him, since he had not been on the job [2][10][11]. In session 12 he took 20 gold up front from Phil Flowerforge in a private deal, after threatening to report the dragon [12][13][4]. Fate: lost with his body.

Magic items

  • None of his own is recorded. His Identify served the party: on the Aurelian plate, which resisted the spell, “Oh, fuck your armor.” [14][1][15], and on the skeleton’s axe in the Candy Cottage, “a plus one Great Axe” [16][5].

Consumables and components

  • Healing potions: in the owlbear fight he snatched one of Caelumn’s and healed Caelumn with his bonus-action feature instead [17][3][18]. He drank one before joining a fight in session 13 [19][20] and used a party potion to bring Caelumn round in session 14 [21]. The healing potion he earned by drinking Alston’s experimental brew was tossed to Terry, who passed it on to him [22][23][24].
  • Food: two rats on a stick for 14 silver [25][26]; three apples stolen from an orchard, which Caelumn paid for with five copper [27][28]; and the dozen cinnamon rolls from Phil’s deal, eaten: “after eating 12 cinnamon rolls on the way here” [4][29].

Permanent notes

  • Death (s15). Before initiative was rolled, an Aurelian chain-master’s chain caught him “around the neck as he pulls with such force that his neck snaps and pulls his head off” [30][31]; no save was offered, “a scripted death” in Vasquez’s player’s words [32]. The party fled behind Phil Flowerforge’s smoke bomb [33][34]; nothing of his is shown being taken, and the 20 gold and anything else he carried were lost with the body.
