Risa's Sister Conspiracy

Risa’s Sister Conspiracy is the campaign’s first concrete thread linking Umbrafall’s street-level criminality to the larger Aurelian abduction network. Risa — the urn-clutching young woman the party intervened to save outside the Whisper Coil Emporium in session 7 — claimed her sister had been cremated at the Dawn Mercy Clinic, but Hugo’s perception in session 8 found lye, not ash in the urn (aquamation residue), with a 20-minute timeline gap between the supposed cremation and someone “checking on” the body. The session 10 interrogation of the orderly Drew confessed the truth: Mira Hale had been abducted by an Aurelian cell for showing magical capabilities and shipped to Aurelia via Dock 13. The Nightwatch had been paid off; the clinic was a coerced cover, not the conspirator.

Overview

What began as a back-alley fight outside the Whisper Coil Emporium in session 7 — two corrupt Nightwatch guards trying to take a metal urn from a grieving young woman — became the seed from which the campaign’s Aurelian conspiracy thread grew. The urn did not contain ashes. Risa’s sister had been aquamated, not cremated, and the body’s whereabouts in the 20-minute timeline gap pointed at the Dawn Mercy Clinic as a deliberate cover.

Session 10’s interrogation of the clinic orderly Drew (broken by Caelumn’s three-natural-20 Intimidation per the session 10 recap) closed the first loop: Aurelian agents are abducting magically-capable people from Umbrafall under the cover of clinic services, paying off the Nightwatch, and shipping the captives north out of Dock 13 toward Aurelia. Mira Hale was sent four days before the session-10 interrogation. Risa was last seen at the Glomangol Inn, drinking heavily and resigned.

The party committed in session 10 to chasing this thread during their planned Aurelia transit. It went dormant through the Eldwythe candy-cottage arc (s12-14) and remained deferred through sessions 15 and 16 as the Aurelian Persecution forced the party underground and onto a skiff toward the White Lantern Shrine.
