Maliwana

Maliwana (Discord handle, “Mally” colloquially) was the player who joined the table in session 15 to replace Mordane and whose character was Althea, a 3-foot white-scaled kobold cleric/paladin of the All Hammer. The player’s self-introduction at [5] - “My name is Maluana, also known as Maluan. Not much of a talker, more of a listener. But I’ve been playing the game for like five to six years, maybe more.” - gives both the table-side phonetic spelling and the prior-experience lead-in. Maliwana left the table between sessions 16 and 17; the in-fiction send-off was the s17 retcon in which Althea was taken by Aurelians at the end of session 16 [1], L785), departing the party offscreen in the same category as Cholmondeley, Harvo, and Ruin - not a pending rescue.

Characters played

  • Althea Stormsoro (s15-s16; in-fiction departed offscreen via s16-retcon Aurelian capture, [1] — 3-foot white-scaled kobold cleric/paladin of the All Hammer (a hammer-of-forge, iron-coded deity; the wiki carries no canon name beyond “All Hammer”). Spell list: Bless, Sacred Flame, Toll the Dead, Healing Light, Draconic Cry, Identify (10-min ritual). Carries a silver-and-gold gorget with a bright burning gem in the centre — the artefact that put her on the run from Aurelian inspection when the party found her in [2]+.

At the table

Maliwana’s Althea voice was nervous around new people, observant, and devotional in cadence. The recurring Bless flavour incantation — “By hammer, by fire, by the ring of creation, to grant them strength.” — recurred as a cue for the spell every session. Combat tells included the Draconic Cry version: “Fuck you, kill those guys.” [3]. Out of combat she tended towards warning observations rather than active steering: “There was something we shouldn’t fight right now up there.” [4].

The s15 self-introduction is the reason the wiki uses “Maliwana” rather than the homophone variants the diariser produces — the handle is the canonical form, with “Maluana” / “Maluan” treated as transcript artefacts.

Departure

Maliwana left the table between sessions 16 and 17. Nick (DM) posted a substantive statement on Discord on 2026-05-17 explaining the circumstances. Preserved verbatim, factually, without taking sides:

Mali has left the campaign because we realized there was a mismatch around AI use. I had been open from the start that I use AI for prep, NPC art, scenes, stat blocks, and writing support, but the issue became that their character appearing in AI-generated scene images crossed a boundary they had not expected. I did not use their character art, only a short description, but it still made her uncomfortable. Since AI is a normal part of how I prep and run this campaign, I felt it was better to call it there rather than keep going with something that would keep bothering them. Polar has also left. After seeing the situation, he felt I handled it badly and that I made the decision before Mali was fully ready to leave. I do not agree with everything that was said, but I understand he did not feel comfortable continuing after that. — Nick (DM), Discord, 2026-05-17

Polar left the table at the same time and for related reasons; see his player article.

The in-fiction explanation is the session 17 retcon: at the end of session 16 Althea and Vasquez split off from the party, were forced back to the sewer when Aurelians closed in, and were taken by Aurelians while the rest of the party fled. Vasquez’s Hat of Disguise was destroyed in the escape. Per Chris’s post-s17 clarification, this is the in-fiction send-off for the character: Althea is departed offscreen in the same category as Cholmondeley, Harvo, and Ruin - a former party member, not a captured-and-rescuable one. Althea’s status: is departed. See the session 17 recap and the s16 Retcon block for the in-fiction framing; the meta is intentionally not surfaced in any in-fiction article.
