Mike: Inventory at Death
Inventory for Mike (Brian’s character in sessions 17 and 18), a Vedalken cleric, druid and wizard built around the Mizzium Apparatus, which let him cast any spell on his list through an Arcana check [1]. He arrived from the shipwreck in chain mail with a shield and a thin spellbook [2][11], and on the skiff he was given Captain Stone and kept two of Hugo’s Biogloom vials to study [4][5]. In session 18 a Message cast through the apparatus was ruled arcane, and the Aurelian patrol killed him, took the apparatus and searched the body; Hugo buried him and took his holy water [22][7][8][9].
Equipment (mundane)
- Chain mail and shield: worn when he was pulled from the wreck, “I’ve got a chain mail and my shield” [2]; in session 18 he called it “a chain shirt”, medium armour [10]. Fate: on his body when the patrol searched it [9]; not recovered.
- Spellbook: “my own much thinner book” [11], with Alarm, Comprehend Languages, Feather Fall, Find Familiar, Identify, Shield, Tenser’s Floating Disk and Unseen Servant [3], “most of my spells are” “ritual in nature” [12]. Fate: presumed taken by the patrol, which “would have searched the body before leaving” [13][9].
- Backpack and crafting kit: he searched the skiff for anything useful “for herbalism or or leather working or alchemy” [14]. Fate: not mentioned after his death.
- Rations: he gave two to Nessa’s hungry children [15][4] and marked one off at the beach camp [16].
- Captain Stone: a pebble with “two cold dots and what looks to be a scratched mouth”, given by Pim for the rations [4]. Under his ritual Detect Magic “it seems to not be magical” [17], and he held it up as the family left [18]. Fate: not mentioned in session 18; presumed on his body.
- Copper wire: the component he raised to his lips for the fatal Message [19][20]. Fate: not mentioned again.
Magic items
- Mizzium Apparatus: his signature item, brought to the table with him. Through it “you can cast any spell that’s on your spell list as long as you pass an arcana check”, a failure casting a random spell instead [1][21]. In session 18 he settled its look, “an amulet or something that fused itself into my chest” [6]. Message, not on his cantrip list, went through it and so counted as arcane [22]. Fate: the patrol’s knight “removes it from the body” [7]; in Aurelian custody.
Consumables and components
- Hugo’s Biogloom vials: one normal and one rare, passed to him for his Detect Magic [23][24]. He meant to keep them, “I need to study those vials” [5]; whether he did is unclear [25]. Fate: at the burial Hugo took back something of his own whose name is unclear, possibly these [8].
- Hugo’s blood: corked for study after the same ritual [5][26]. Fate: given back at Hugo’s request [27][28].
- Goodberries: cast with his last spell slot at the beach camp; “I hand out the good berries. I got five left for tomorrow.” [29][30]. Fate: the five he kept are not mentioned again.
- Holy water: his flask; where it came from is not stated. Fate: Hugo took it “just in case that comes of use” [8].
Permanent notes
- Bobby the deer, his familiar, summoned “out of the nothingness” at the beach camp to feed the fire and keep watch [31][32]. Fate: not mentioned after his death.
- Death (s18). A Message cast through the apparatus in front of an Aurelian patrol was ruled arcane [20][22]. The knight Glenn dropped him with two greatsword blows and beheaded him the next round [33][34]. The patrol took the apparatus and searched the body; Hugo dug the grave [7][35][9].
Tracked across sessions
- s17: arrives with chain mail, shield, spellbook and the Mizzium Apparatus [1][2][11]; gives two rations to Nessa’s children and receives Captain Stone, not magical [15][4][17]; keeps Hugo’s two Biogloom vials to study and hands back Hugo’s blood [5][28].
- s18: settles the apparatus’s look and mends the hull through it [36][6]; summons Bobby [31]; keeps five goodberries [30]; killed after a Message through the apparatus; the patrol takes it and searches the body, and Hugo takes his holy water [22][7][8][9].
