Hugo: Inventory

Inventory for Hugo (Dylan’s character throughout), a Voidforged barbarian of the homebrew Path of Bloodfury, level 4 at end of session 16. His pact with The Black Mask put the Onyx Ring of Barbed Hooks on his finger for good [64]. Since session 6 his longsword has been the Dragonslayer Longsword that Caelumn attuned in session 3, with no hand-over shown [3][56]. He also carries the Gloom-Touched Buckler, the Greataxe of Frost +1, a +1 greataxe and the Winged Boots [72][4][5][6], Maelis’s notes and shipping ledger [38][39], a hoard of Biogloom [7][140] and a supply of hand axes, thrown freely and only sometimes recovered [8][10]. In session 24 he disarmed the third greatsword skeleton and threw its sword across the room, offered a greataxe to the Dracolich statue, and clicked his boots to carry the fallen Father Thomas out of the knight of smoke’s reach [50][52][84][96].

Equipment (mundane)

  • Hand axes: thrown since session 2 [17]; one took Harvo’s head [18][19]. He had “like six spare hand axes” to dig Mike’s grave [20]. Two thrown at the living skin were not recovered [21][22], and four at the flameskulls: “that was my last hand axe wasn’t it” [8][23]. Yet in session 23 one killed a greatsword skeleton and he pulled it out again [24][25][10]. In session 24 he threw one at the knight of smoke and a 20 was a miss [26][27]; no line shows it recovered. Fate: at least one carried; the count is a question for his player.
  • His first longsword: drawn against the bandit zombies, “I will take out my long sword” [28]. From session 6 the sword he names is the Dragonslayer Longsword (see Magic items).
  • Dragon-skull helmet: he wore Sunset is Nigh’s head out of the lair [29][30], and Fergus cleaned it into “a clean skull with intact teeth” for a crown [31][1]; dragon teeth too [32][33]. He bagged it near Aurelian country, “best to off my dragon skull helmet” [34], and took it off before the patrol [35][36]. Fate: carried.
  • Lantern: “I’ve already got one of them lanterns” [37]. Fate: not mentioned since.
  • Maelis’s notes and the shipping ledger: he pocketed her notes, “I’ll take all the notes and put them in my pocket” [38], and Harvo handed him the Duskwatch shipping papers to take to the Broker [39][40]. Fate: carried; to be redeemed in Velkris (see Maelis’s Research Notes and Forged Duskwatch Ledger).
  • Cracked crystal shards: he picked up “the remaining shards the crystal” in the quarry [41]. Fate: carried.
  • Dragon dice set: from his soldier background, “it’s on your character” [42][43], played with Steven on the skiff.
  • A spare shield: by his player’s account in the session 23 break, offered to Kole [44]. Nothing changed hands.
  • The third skeleton’s greatsword (s24): he asked what it would take to steal it, and the DM ruled that it would take an “attack roll followed by a contested athletics check” [45][46]. Hugo put his own sword away, hit, and won the contest with a 17; as the sword came out of the skeleton’s hand, “whatever magic is empowering it seems to fade away” [47][48][49][50]. It needs two hands, and he threw it across the room [51][52]. Fate: thrown; no line says who has it.

Magic items

  • Dragonslayer Longsword: Caelumn took and attuned it in session 3 [53][54], but from session 6 it is Hugo’s in his words and the DM’s: “my dragon slayer sword” [3][55][56][57]. No hand-over is shown; a question for the DM. Mike’s Detect Magic found “Hugo’s sword” [58]; in session 22 a natural 20 with it cut the last of the living skin away [59][60], and in session 23 another took a skeleton’s head [61][62]. He will lend “any magic item apart from my long sword” [63]. Fate: carried.
  • Onyx Ring of Barbed Hooks: the Black Mask’s ring, “have fun with the ring”, on signing the pact [64][2][65]; it cannot come off. He taps it to call the Mask [66]. He twice reached for “my ring” on a Charisma roll, in session 13 for a reroll of a failed Persuasion roll and in session 21 on a failed Charisma roll, and dropped the idea both times; no such property is recorded for this ring, and which ring he meant is not stated [9][67]. Fate: worn.
  • Altered sending stone: the Mask’s, with a button that plays a recording of the Project Veilbreak trials [68][69][70]. Fate: carried.
  • Gloom-Touched Buckler: Caelumn offered it to Terry, who passed it to Hugo, “Alright, you take it then.” [71][72][73]; Harvo identified it [74]. He used it to “use the plus one AC” [75][76], and in session 23 “resin spike out from your buckler and block the swipe” as a reaction that “just recharges on a long rest” [77][78]. Fate: carried; he would not part with it [79][80].
  • Greataxe of Frost +1: The Broker’s gift for Maelis, “It’s called a great axe of the first” [4]; “I am keeping it as a generous gift, but I am not attuning to it.” [81][82]. In session 24 he offered a greataxe to the Dracolich statue, “I will pass it the great axe”, and “Nothing happens.” [83][84][85]; the recording does not make the axe’s name clear, and it is probably this one. Fate: carried, rarely used [86].
  • Sending stone: the Broker’s, “If you ever need me, just press this little sending stone” [87]. Fate: carried.
  • Charlatan’s Die: found on the first succubus [88]; Harvo identified it and threw it back to him [89][90]. Not used since.
  • Winged Boots: his pick of the DM’s out-of-game gift of a magic item in session 11 [5][91]. He flew Caelumn out of the owlbear fight [92], flew at the catfish and the fey [93][94] and, in session 23, “I’m gonna click my boots and then I’m gonna attack it” [95]. In session 24 he said “I’m going to click my boots” in the knight fight, and later declared that he would “fly 10 feet up into the air” with the fallen Father Thomas, out of the knight’s reach [15][96]; he laid him on the floor afterwards [97]. Fate: worn; not for lending [98].
  • +1 greataxe: from the skeleton in the cottage tunnel, identified by Ruin [99][6]; he kept his longsword [100][101], offered the axe to Caelumn [102] and offered his greataxes again in session 23, “i’ve got multiple great axes” [103]. Fate: carried.
  • Ring of Swimming: he claimed “the rimmed of swimming” in session 6 [104][105], and in session 18 swam ashore at 30 feet with it, a recap reward from “like session two” [106][107], though the DM gave that reward to Cholmondeley [108]. A question for the DM.

Consumables and components

  • Healing potions: he took Cholmondeley’s [109][110] and Harvo’s [111]. In session 9 Terry threw the one from his necklace into the downed Vasquez, “you owe me a healing potion” [112][113]. He fed party potions to Vasquez for nine and to Caelumn [114][115][116], and in session 16 healed Caelumn for nine and Terry for five [117][118]. He drank two at the flameskulls [119][120]. By his count in the session 23 break, his sheet holds a greater healing potion, a healing potion and the red liquid [121]. In session 24 he said “i did say i had a couple left” [12]; none was drunk or fed that session.
  • The mysterious red liquid: kept undrunk; to the DM it “looks identical” to a healing potion, but his answer to whether it is one began “No,” [122][123][124][125]. Unidentified.
  • Anti-toxins: one from the s6 desk was distributed [126]; in session 15 he took a healing potion and “an antitoxin” from a wall cubby [127][128][129]. One went to Terry in session 21 [130][131], one to Terry and, by his account, one to Father Thomas in session 22 [132][133][134]. How many remain is unclear [135].
  • Biogloom: he filled empty potion vials with it from the fungal creatures, seven normal [136][7], took a grapefruit-sized spore gland [137][138], “It’s not a war crime if it’s the first time, right?” [139], and “I’ve got seven of the rare ones as well.” [140]. One of each went to Mike for his ritual [141][142], possibly what he took back at the burial [143]. He thought of coating his sword with it and did not [144].
  • Phase-spider venom: a vial Vasquez extracted and put in his hand [145][146]. Fate: not mentioned since.
  • Mike’s holy water: “I will also take his holy water just in case that comes of use.” [143]. Whether it is the holy water Father Thomas sprinkled in session 22 is not stated.
  • Food and coin: a portion of Fergus’s dragon meat for five temporary hit points [147][148]; five gold for the party’s room in session 10 [149]; his 25 gold of the mining money [150][151]; two goodberries from Father Thomas [152].

Permanent notes

  • The Black Mask’s pact (s4). Ten years of service after the quest, his soul forfeit if he dies in the first seven and free if he dies in the last three [153]. The Mask renegotiated it in session 17 to want a second “attack dog” [154].
  • The Wraith’s conditioning. In session 19 she spoke his trigger words, “Teddy Bear. Lamp.”, and his mind went blank [155][156].
  • Dominated (s9). Under the succubus’s domination he killed Harvo with a natural-20 hand axe [157][18][158].

Tracked across sessions

  • s2 (first recorded session): throws hand axes and fights with his longsword [17][28]; already has a lantern [37].
  • s3: wears the dragon’s head out of the lair, takes two teeth and Cholmondeley’s healing potion [29][33][109]; Fergus makes him the skull crown [1].
